SACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application filed May 28, 1913. Serial No. 770,552.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MADISON QUISEN- BERRY and ARMEANOUS P. HAMBLEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Prentiss, in the county of Beckham, State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sacks; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactvdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in sacks for use by cotton pickers, and has for its object to produce an article of this type so constructed that the same may .be conveniently and easily emptied.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the device that after the same is filled it may be conveniently weighed.
With these and other ob eots in view, th1s invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the sack. Fig. 2 is a View showing the sack in the position assumed when being emptied.
Referring to the drawing, designates a sack, the same being formed from any suitable fabric and has the side edges of its back and front so stitched that the sack is contracted at its middle, the purpose of which will appear later. The lower the numeral 1 end of the sack is 0 en at the bottom to form a discharge mout 2, said mouth being adapted to be closed by the flap 3 which-is a continuation of the loweredge of the back;
The flap 3 has secured thereto a plurality of buttons 4 which are engaged by the button holes 5 formed in the transverse strip '6 which is secured to the front of the sack and adjacent the lower edge thereof, said flap serving to close the mouth 2.
It is of course obvious that other means for closing the mouth may be substituted for the buttons and button holes, if desired.
The upper end of the sack is provided with a mouth 8 so that When the sack is being emptied the cotton will be discharged from the mouth 2 as well as the mouth 8.
oecured to the lower edge of the sack 1 is a ring 9, which is for the purpose of suspending the sack upon a scale when it is desired to Weigh the contents thereof.
From this construction it will be seen that a sack has been provided which is narrower at its center, thus permitting the cotton to be emptied therefrom at both ends. To accomplish this it is only necessary that the picker grasp the sack at its center, and as the sack is larger at its ends than at its center, the
cotton will be readily discharged, it being.
of course understood that the mouth 2 has been opened upon releasing the flap 5 from engagement with the buttons 4.
What is claimed is A cotton picker sack comprising a front and back, the side edges of which are so stitched that the sack will be narrower at its center, mouths for the upper and lower ends of the sack, a flap carried by the lower end of the back, buttons secured to the flap, a strip stitched transversely of the front and awacent the lower edge thereof, button holes formed in the strip for engaging said buttons, whereby the flap closes the mouth at the lower end of the sack, said sack being adapted to be grasped at its narrowed center for discharging the contents from both mouths simultaneously. 4
In testimony whereof, we aflix our signatures, in the presence of two witnesses.
MADISON QUISENBERRY. ARMEANOUS P. HAMBLEN.
. Witnesses? W. L. HINKLE, J. R. BRUNER.
The upper edge of the back extends above the upper edge of the front and has secured. thereto a neck band 7.
