To all y'ic/tom t may concern Be it known that I, FRANK B. Bos'rwicn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainfield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful septic Bernal-Taste Receiver', of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a receiver for dental waste, so constructed that, in the operating of scraping the waste from the tool, the tool will not be contaminated by contact with matter removed from the teeth of previous patients.

'Io this end, the invention consists in providing a receptacle with a removable cover or disk, this disk being preferably destructible, means being provided whereby the disk may he held upon the receptacle.

I'Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of whatl is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings,-Figure l shows the invention in side elevation; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section upon the line 2 2 of Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a top plan of the complete receiver; Fig. 4 is a top plan of the removable disk. Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation showing a modified form of the invention, and Fig. 6 is a fragmental section showing a modified form of the invention.

In carrying out the invention there is provided as a primary element, a receptacle l which preferably, although not necessarily,

is of cylindrical contour. If desired, the receptacle l may be threaded at its lower end, as shown at 2, to engage with an annular base 3. The receptacle l is fashioned from impermeable material.

The upper end of the receptacle l is open, and projecting inwardly from the wall of the receptacle l, adjacent its open, upper end, is a shoulder 4. Resting upon this shoulder 4 is a disk 5, the upper face of which is preferably fiush with the upper edge of the receptacle l. The disk 5 may be fashioned from any desired material, in the present instance, however, card-board or the like is preferred, the construction being such that a disk 5 may be supplied for Specification of Letters Patent.

soon as the operation is performed. Therefore, the patient may be reassured that he will receive no contamination from a previons lpatient. In the disk 5 there is a toolreceivnig opening 6, preferably star shaped, and comprising a series of notches 7, adapted to receive a tool to scrape the waste therefrom.

The invention further includes a retaining member, denoted generally by the numeral 8. The retaining member 8 is of annular form, and includes a top 9 and a iange 10. The top 9 is adapted to overlap the upper edge of the receptacle l, and to overhang the periphery of the disk 5. The flange l0 surrounds the outer wall of the receptacle 1 closely. In the flange 10 are fashioned bayonet slots 11, adapted to engage with projections l2 upon the outer wall of the receptacle l. It will be understood readily that when the projections l2 are engaged with the bayonet slots l1, the retaining member 8 will be held upon the receptacle 1, so that the top 9 of the retaining member will maintain the disk 5 in place.

In practical operation, the receptacle l may be partially filled with a disinfecting solution. The end of the tool, carrying the waste, is introduced into the opening 6, and when the tool is withdrawn, the waste will be drawn away from the tool, when the inner end of the tool passes outwardly through the notches '7 in the disk 5. `When an operation is completed, the disk 5 may be removed, and another disk be substituted therefor, the soiled disk, when fashioned from card-board or other destructible material, being cast away or burned up. 'lhere is, therefore, no opportunity for infecting one patient from another, since each patient will have his individual disk 5.

In that form of the invention which ap pears in Fig. 5, the base 43 is provided with an upstanding central portion 44, about which fits the receptacle 45. The central portion 44 is equipped with a plurality of projections 46, adapted to register in bayonet slots 47, formed in the lower edge of the receptacle 45. The form of invention appearing in Fig. 5 may be employed to advantage when it is desired to attach the receptacle removably to the base, and when a water tight receptacle is not required.

In that form of the invention which appears in Fig. 6, the receptacle may be threaded upon its outer surface, at its 'upper end, a depending flange 51 of the retaining rneniber 52 being threaded up'on its inner face, as shown at 53, to engage With the threads upon the outer surface of the receptaele.

Having thus described the invention, what is Claimed is A dental Waste receiver comprising a receptacle having an internal shoulder; 'a destruotible disk resting on the shoulder and having a tool receiving opening; a retaining ring surrounding the receptacle and hav-v ing a iiange which overhangs the disk; and interengaging elements on the ring and the receptacle coperating upon relative rot-ation between the ring and the receptacle to hold the ring von the receptacle7 the ange engaging the top of the receptacle to prevent a rending or distortion of the disk upon relative rotation between the ring and the receptacle.
