Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 21, 1914.
Application filed November 12, 1912. Serial No. 730,993.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, IDA A. ROBERTSON and Bnnronn S. RoBEnrsoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockymount, in the county of Franklin, State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Apron, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is an apron or cape, adapted to be employed by the patrons of hair cutting establishments.
One object of the invention is to provide an apron or cape of the type above described, which will receive and hold the severed hair, the hair being thereby prevented from drop ping to the floor.
Another object of the invention is to provide novelmeans for maintaining the hair receiving member in outstanding relation with respect to the cape.
A further object of the invention is to provide an apron or cape having a hair receiving member, the parts of which may be separated, to permit the hair to be removed.
Another object of the invention is to improve generally, and to increase the utility of, devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a plan showing one form of the invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the structure shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the structure shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 depicting the means whereby the hair receiving membet is maintained at an angle to the cape; Fig. 4C is a perspective of the brace which is employed for holding the hair receiving member at an angle to the cape; Fig. 5 is a sectional detail illustrating one form of the connecting element which may be employed.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a cape 9. The cape is equipped with a neck opening 10. Any suitable means may be employed for connecting the ends of the cape. In the present instance, buttons 11 are provided. The cape 9 is equipped with an upstanding, hair receiving element, denoted generally by the numeral 12. The upstanding, hair receiving element 12 may consist of a plurality of sections 1 1, the ends of which are overlapped, and are secured together by means of buttons 15, or in any other desired manner. The end of one terminal section 1a is provided with a button 17 or the like, adapted to engage a button hole 16 in the other terminal section, to the end that the member 12 may extend continuously and unbrokenly around the body of the wearer. The lower edges of the sections 14 of the member 12 are upturned as indicated at 18, and lie against the cape 9, the parts 18 being connected with the cape 9 by means of buttons 19 or other securing elements adapted to a like end. In this connection, referring to Fig. 5, it will be understood that wherever buttons are mentioned in this application, the buttons may be of any desired form. Preferably, however, as shown, the button comprises a head 21, there being a shank 22 projecting from the head, and a ring 23 being detachably mounted in the shank 22, the construction being common and well known. The shank 22 of the button extends through the material.
Referring to the device shown in Fig. 1, a variety of instrumentalities may be employed for maintaining the hair receiving member 12 in outstanding relation with respect to the cape 9. If desired, a plurality of braces 24 may be provided, the same having right and left spirals 25 at their ends. One of the spirals 25 is adapted to be engaged in an opening 26 formed in the cape 9, the other of the spirals 25 being adapted to be inserted into the openings 27 which are formed in the overlapped ends of the sections 1 1 of the hair engaging member 12. It will be observed that by rotating the braces 24k in one direction, the spirals 25 will be engaged, respectively, with the cape 9 and with the overlapped ends of the sections 14 of the hair receiving member. Not only do the braces 24: constitute means for maintaining the hair receiving member in outstanding relation with respect to the cape 9, but, as well, these braces constitute means for connecting the ends of the sections 1 1, it being understood that, if desired, the buttons 15, hereinbefore referred to, may be dispensed with.
The ends of the sections 14 of the member 12 may be disconnected readily to permit the member 12 to be cleaned out. All of the constituent parts of the device herein disclosed may be fashioned from any chosen material or combination of materials.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a cape provided with a transverse, upwardly extended outstanding hair receiving member comprising a plurality of parts having separable ends; and a brace for maintaining said member in outstanding relation with respect to the cape, one end of the brace being detachably connected with the cape, the other end of the brace being detachably connected with the separable ends of the parts of said member, to hold said parts together.
2. In a device of the class described, a cape; a hair receiving member applied thereto; and a brace having right and left spirals 20 engaged with the cape and with said member.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto aifixed our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
