other refuse matter,l the primary object of i v the invention being to provide meansadapted for use in combination with the receptacle properg'whereby the paper or other material may be easily and quickly removed and disposed o.
The invention has for another and more specific object the provision of a bag or container for the paper and other matter provided with a drawV cord at its mouth or open end, means secured to the receptacle for detachable engagement by said container, whereby the container may be bodily removed with its contents' from the basket or receptacle and the mouth thereof simultaneously closed.
The invention has for another. object the provision of improved means adapted for use in connection with theordinary waste paper` basket whereby the contents o'f a large number of baskets may be easily and quickly removed and providing means whereby the contents of the basket may be Confined in case the same should be accidently ignited, thereby preventing the spread of the flames.
The invention has for a still further ohject to provide a device of the above character which is simple and inexpensive in its construction, and is highly efficient and serviceable in practical use.
With the above and other objects in view,
.the invention consists in certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts that 1 shall hereinafter more fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lrecep- Jacle embodying the present invention; Fig. 2 is a verticalsection; Fig. 3 is a detail section' taken onthe line 3-3'of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the cord engaging hooks and the attaching plate therefor.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates a wire basket vof any ordinary or approved construction such as is generally used as a receptacle for wastepaperand other refusev matter. rlfhe wire mesh constituting the body of the basket is reinforced at its upperand lower ends and at an intermediate point by the comparatively heavy annular Vwires 6.
7 designates a bottom plate which is arranged within the basket and suitably se cured thereto.
The container for the refuse matter preferably consists of a bag 8 formed of heavy canvas. `This bag at its open end is of greater diameter than at its bottom or closed end, the latter end of the bag having sewed or otherwise secured therein an annular strand of rope or wire, indicated at 9. In
cthe open end of the bag adjacent the edge thereof, spaced eyelets 10 are provided, and
kthrough these eyelets the draw cord 11 is `threaded` The bag is also provided with I the additional eyelets 10.
lt will be understood that by means ofthe draw cord 11, the mouth of the bag'may be contracted and closed.
A plurality of hooks 12 are secured to the upperfedge of the basket or receptacle 5.
'In order to admit of the application of my invention to waste paper baskets 0r other receptacles now in common use, l mount each of these hooks upon an individual attaching` plate 18, the same being illustrated in detail in Fig. 4 of the drawing. rllhe hook is soldered or otherwise rigidly fixed upon the body of this plate, said plate being formed with a plurality of arms or eXtensions 14. One of these arms is adapted to be bent around the top reinforcing wire 6 of the basket, while the other arms which diverge from each other are similarly bent around oppositely extending interwoven wires of the body of the basket. rlhus the hooks are rigidly held in place upon the upper edge of the basket or receptacle, and their accidental displacement or loss obviated.
In the use of my invention, the bag or container 8 is arranged Within the wire basket or receptacle 5 and the hooks 12 engaged in the eyelets 10. The heavyy rope or wire which is sewed in the bottom end of the container prevents said container from coli 1 cle;
lapsing and holds the same open at its lower end upon the bottom plate 7 of the receptawith Waste paper, dress trimmings, or other refuse matter which may have some vmone-y Y bery of Wire rbaskets or receptacles andeasily handled by' `one person. In case the contents ofthe bag or container are ignited by a lighted match being accidentally dropped therein, the mouth of the bag canbe quickly lclosed land `the entire bag withdrawn from the basket and thrown out of a Window, thus preventing the spread of the lire to the Woodwork or other parts' of the building. Vaterpmay also be poured into the canvas bag -to extinguish the ames and the Water will be held in the bag and prevented from escaping through the interstices of the Wire mesh. basket. n v y From the foregoing, it will be appreciated that I vhave evolved a'highly .eificient and serviceable device. The adoption of ymy inventionv Will notadd materially tothe cost ofv `such Waste receiving receptacles noW upon the market.' Owing to the extremely simple `construction of the device, it Will be v appreciated that the same can be produced at small manufacturing cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred i construction and arrangement of f the several elements, it is obvious that the in- When the container has become filledl ventioni is susceptible `of considerable modi- `cation'therein and Ir therefore reserve the right to resort to all such legitimate changes as maybe fairly embodied Within the scope and spirit of the appended claims.
'i -Having thusdescribed my invention, whatv is claimed is:
l. The combination with ay receptacle, of a therein, a draW-cordto close the mouth of '45 collapsible container adapted to be arranged said container, a plurality `o f hooks' each pro-A i vided With an attaching plate, said plate having a plurality of arms engageable WithL thereceptacle to fasten the vplate to the openv lets secured tothe container atvits open end `'for detachable engagement with the respective hooks to holdthe mouth yof the containerl open.
end thereof and rigidly retain'the same in its applied position, 'and a plurality of eye- 2; The combination with a Wire basket, of
.a collapsiblefcontainer adapted" to be arranged therein, a draw cordv to close'the mouth of .said container, a plurality of hooks, each of said yhooks being' mounted upon an attaching plate, said plate having' ,spaced arms adapted to be bent around the v Wires -of the basket to vretain-the hooks in` place Vthereon, said container having means for detachable engagement With said hooks vto hold -the mouth of the container open.k
In testimony whereof I hereuntoaix my signature in the kpresence of'tWo witnesses.
