To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PETER C. BURNS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Extensible Sup? ports, of which the following is a specifi cation. v
My invention relates to improvements in extensible supports such as are employed for supporting telephone sets, lights or mirrors, etc. In bracket supports of this character as heretofore devised, it has been found diflicult to providea bracket which not only can be extended in a horizontal plane, but also can be extended at an up wardly inclined angle, to thus vary ,vhq height at which the telephone set, for exi ample, is supported. The object of my invention is to pro; vide' an extensible bracket which can be extended in ahorizontal plane in the ordif nary manner, and can also be raised so as to extend upwardly, and then be auto; matically locked in this raised position and cannot be unlocked until the bracket has been collapsed 0r contracted to a predeter mined point. k I
A further object of my invention is to provide a yielding stop to take away the sudden jar occasioned by the sudden c0l switc hook.

It is further found that when supports of this character are clamped on to the tubular telephone stand that. they are apt to slide upwardly and thus come in contact with the telephone switch hook and liftthis hook. instead of being connected directly to the clamp 15 on the rod 10, is connected to this clain through a 'pivotedzlcver 16, this construction being such that the clamp 15' can be made rigid with the rod 10, as this pivoted lever connection obviates the neces sity-of a sliding hearing. The inner end 7 of this series of links 8 is likewise pivotally connected with the clamp 17. This pivotal connection consists of the arm 18 provided with a slot 19. This slot is provided with an enlarged upwardly curved end portion .20, and the lower side "21 of the arm. is

In a device the class described, a support, lazy-tongs pivotally connected to said support, adapted to be extended and contracted in a horizontal plane, means for permitting said lazytongs to be extended to on upwardly inclined angle, means for automatically locking said lazy-tongs in said extended and raised position so as to prevent them from swinging downward, and means for releasing said locking means by the movement of said lazy-tongs as they ei e brought into closed position.
