EDWARD'I. DOREMUS, OF WASHINGTON, LOUISIANA.
Letters Patent No. 111,9I7, dated February 21, 1871; antedated February 11, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN FANNlNG-MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.`
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. DoREMUs, of XVnshington, in the pan-ish of St. Landry and `Strate of Louisiana, hai-re invented a new and improved Fanning-Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is zt full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make andY use the same, reference being hud to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in whicl1 Figure l represents a. front View of my improved fanning-nmchiue.
Figure 2 is a. transverse section of the seme.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
' This invention relates to a.- new mechanism for moving fans by menus of clock-work, and consists in the nse of double-jointed levers, Which are combined with the esczipeuient-.wheel ofthe works, to imp-.ut
oscillating motion to e connecting-link and the 12in.
The invention will be very convenient for working fans in parlor and workrooms, but cnn also be used as an appendix to machinery oi' all kinds.V
A in the drawing represents the escupemcnt-wheel of ay clock-Work, B, which is oi" suituble construction, :rnd'propelled either by n spring weight or other power.
The wheel A has projecting pins a on both sides, set at cquztl spaces apart, those in front being set between those on the reverse side, and rice rcsa.
D is the 12in to be oscillztted. It is'suspended from :t horizontal arbor, b, which is hung in the freine E of the apparatus.
The arbor b has a. crunk, c, which is, by means 0f elink, d, connected with a. pivoted beam, e,
`lhe beam eis pivoted to the frame E at the middle. Its ends are by means of rods f f connected with two levers F F.
Both levers F are pivoted by one common pin, g, to it vertically adjustable slide, 71.. Their lower endsare connected with the rods fj'. Their upper ends are placed against the opposite faces of the wheel A, and are alternately struck by the pins a `during the revolution of the wheel A.
As the levers F are oscillated by the pins a of the escapement-wheel, they import similar motion to the beztin e, which transmits it to the fun. A
By being.- vertically adjustable, as aforesaid, the levers I4` cun be set up,.zrs their ends :tre worn by contact with the pins zo.
Small friction-rollers xmuy be fittedv upon the pins a, and euch roller covered with rubber, to Vreduce the noise of mot-ion.
Having thus described my invention,
I cl-.iim as new and desire' to secure by Letters Petentlhe combination of the wheel A and plus a a., with the levers F l, rods f f, beatmv e, and fenv D, all nrrztnged to operate as set forth.
VVitnessesz' EDWARD P. DOREMUS.
M. D. KAVANAGH, GEORGE W. MORGAN.
