HANDLE FOR TOOTH-BRUSHES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Original application filed May 31, 1911, Serial No. 630,508. Divided and this application filed July 21, 1913.
Serial No. 780,302.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER T. FARRAR, citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles for Tooth-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to magazine handles for brushes and more particularly to the magazine handle, shown and described in my Patent No. 1,063,523, issued June 3, 1913, of which this application is a division.
The handle embodying the invention is designed more particularly for embodiment in a tooth brush having removable .tufts of bristles.
The invention aims, among other things, to provide in such a handle a perforated cap within which bristle carrying heads may be arranged when the brush is not in use so that it will not come in contact with the support upon which the brush is placed after use and will be allowed to dry without at the same time collecting dust.
The invention further contemplates the formation in the handle, of a cavity designed to receive and contain a number of bristle carrying heads, so that when the heads become worn, they may be readily replaced or bristle tufts different in character may be substituted one for another.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the brush embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical longitudinal sectional view through the handle of the brush. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of the split socket and a bristle headin disassembled relation to each other but indicating the manner in which the socket is adapted to receive a bristle head.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference. characters.
In the drawings, the handle of the brush is indicated in general by the numeral 1 and the shank of the handle by the numeral 2, the said shank being formed at one end with the usual head 3 which is provided with a socket (not shown) designed to receive bristle carrying heads 4, the bristles being indicated by the numeral 5. The handle 1 of the brush is formed with a cavity 6' of sufiicient size to receive a number of the heads and this cavity 6 is closed by means of a stopper 7, which maybe of cork or any other like material.
As before stated, the invention contemplates that the bristle carrying heads shall be so held that they may dry without coming in contact with the surface upon which the brush is laid when not in use, and to this end, there is removably fitted upon the handle 1 at the end thereof a ca 8 having perforations 9 in its wall. K cup-like socket 10 is provided in the bottom of the cap 9 and after the brush has been used, the bristle carrying head is removed from its socket in the head 3 and inserted into the socket 10 in the cap 8, after which the cap is fitted upon the handle. The brush may then be laid upon anysurface without any danger of the bristles coming in contact with the surface and due to the provision of the perforations in the cap, the bristles will dry, although they will not be liable to collect dust while drying.
Having thus described the invention whatis claimed as new is:
1. A magazine brush handle'including a perforated cap removably fitted upon the handle, and a socket mounted within the cap and adapted to receive 'a bristle carrying head. i
2. In a magazine brush handle, a perforated cap removably fittedv upon the handle, and means within the cap for holding a bristle carrying head spaced from the walls of the cap.
3. In a magazine brushhandle, a perforated cap removably mounted upon the handle, and a split socket member arranged within the cap member and adapted to receive a bristle carrying head and to grip the head whereby it may be held in spaced relation to the walls of the ca In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
