JULIAN KROLIKOWSKI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FENCE.
Application filed July 7, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JULIAN KRoLIKowsKi, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fences.
An object of the present invention is to provide a wire fence in which the posts may be easily and quickly positioned in the ground and be effectively retained in such position so that the strain on the same caused by the longitudinal strand wires is to a great degree obviated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fence post for wire fences formed of a plurality of sections in which the main section entering the ground is first properly positioned after which, the remaining sections are secured thereto.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which shows the preferred embodiment of the present invention and to which reference is had herein by like characters designating corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a fence embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of a fence post with the upper end partially shown in section. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line IIIIII of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional View taken on line IVIV of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of a portion of a fence post illustrating the modification of the present invention, and Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view taken on line VIVI of Fig. 5.
Briefly described, the invention relates principally to a fence post formed of a plurality of sections, with the main section adapted to be received in the ground and constituting the main support for the longitudinal strand wires and to receive the remaining post sections that are secured thereto and carry the strand wires with means Specification of Letters Patent.

carried by the latter sections engaging the ground to further support the main post section.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates the post which may be formed of metal or any other suitable material and has its lower end tapered as at 11 to be re ceived in the ground as shown in dotted line position in Fig. 1. The member 10 constitutes the main section of the fence post and receives the post sections 12 secured thereto at the upper and lower ends thereof by the bolts 13 passing through the sections 10 and 12. The post is braced at its lower end so that the same will normally assume a vertical position, such brace consisting in reducing the lower ends of the post sections 12, as at 14 and providing on the said sections 12 below the reduced portion 14; a coneshaped base 15 adapted to engage the ground line as shown in Fig. 1, while the upper ends of the post sections 12 are similarly reduced and through which pass the said fastening bolts 18. The sections 12 are provided with eyes or other suitable fastening means 16 to receive the ends of the fence wires 17.
In the main section or core is here shown, as cylindrical in form, and the outer sections as substantially semi-cylindrical being recessed on their fiat faces to receive the main section or core, which they substantially envelop throughout their length. Irrespective of the cross sectional form of the members 10 and 12, it is intended that the outer members shall substantially inclose the main section as herein shown.
A modification of the present invention is shown in Figs. 5 and 6 and consists of the post 10' adapted to receive the movable sections 12 which are secured thereto in a manner similar to the preferred form as by the fastening members 13. The opposite outer faces of the sections 12 are provided with flanges or ribs 18 to which may be secured the strand wires 17.
From the above description of the invention it is believed that the construction and operation of the same will be readily apparent, and while I have shown and described the preferred embodiments thereof, I do not wish to confine myself to the exact details of construction shown, as various forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts as shown may be had without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention .as claimed.
What I claim as new is A metal fence post comprising a solid core cylindrical in cross-section and provided 011 its lower end with a ground entering spike, a pair of opposed sheath members semicircular in cross-section inclosing said core, said sheath members having the outer upper ends cut-away to provide a reduced neck portion, and reduced in cross sect'ional area adjacent their lower ends, outwardly pro- 1 Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing V WashizigtonQD'. C
j'ecting base members carried by the lower ends of the sheath members below the lower reduced portions, and fastening bolts eX- 'tendi ngthrough the upper and lower re- 'duced portions of the sheath members and CHAS. S AMA LENA SCHWARTZ.
