NICHOLAS A. MOLTEUIVI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MILK-BOTTLE HOLDER.
Application filed November 28, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS A. Moi.- TRUM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk- Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in milk bottle holders and has particular application to a holder and protector for the mouth of the bottle.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a device of the class described whereby the milk bottle may be securely and effectively locked against theft and whereby the mouth of the bottle will be protected so that removing of the cap and withdrawal of the milk from the bottle will be eliminated.
. t is also my purpose to provide a device of the type set forth whereby a number of bottles may be locked against removal and which will be constructed in such manner as to receive bottles of various sizes.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention having a capacity of a single bottle of milk. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view therethrougl'i. Fig. 4 is a view in front elevation of a milk bottle holder constructed to receive a number of bottles of various sizes. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the device shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view through the same.
Referring now to the drawings in detail and particularly to the form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1, '2 and 3, 1 designates a back plate provided with openings 2 adapted to receive screws or the like whereby the plate may be fastened to an appropriate support outside of the dwelling house or other structure to be equipped with the de-- vice. Formed on the lower edge of the back plate 1 and projecting outwardly therefrom is a shelf 3 having the outer edge and the side edges thereof turned upwardly to form Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No.874,473.
flanges l designed to receive the bottom of the milk bottle. Hingedly connected to the upper edge of the back plate 1 is a cap plate 5 having the outer edge thereof formed with a depending annular flange 6 designed to encircle the mouth of the milk bottle when the latter is placed upon the shelf 3, the cap 5 resting upon the upper end of the bottle.
By means of the construction just described. it will be seen that when the milk bottle is placed upon the shelf 3 the cap 5 may be swung into engagement with the upper end of'the bottle to prevent the removal of the bottle cap and the consequent contamination of the milk. The cap 5 is preferably provided with a suitable form of snap lock 10 adapted to engage a keeper 11 carried by the upper portion of the back plate to hold the cap against movement to open position succeeding the placing of the bottle of milk in the holder.
In the form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 4: to 8 inclusive, 1 have shown the holder as constructed to hold a number of bottles varying in size and, in the present instance, the holder is designed to hold three bottles and comprises a back plate 12 provided with openings 13 adapted to receive Patented Jan. 15%, 191
securing screws l l whereby the back plate may be fastened to a suitable support. Formed on the lower edge of the back plate and projecting outwardly therefrom at right angles thereto are three individual shelves 15 rounded to conform to the curvature of the milk bottles and having the marginal edges thereof formed with upwardly extending flanges 16 respectively designed to encircle the lower ends of the bottles placed upon the shelves.
22 designates a cap plate hinged to the upper longitudinal edge of the back plate and of a length equal to that of the back plate and formed on the marginal edge of the cap plate is 21 depending flange 23 designed to inclose the mouths of the bottles,
holder will be inclosed effectively.
The flange 23 of the cap plate is preferably equipped with a snap plate 24 designed to engage a keeper 25 carried by the adj acent portion of the'cap plate whereby the cap plate will be locked in closed position so that possibility of removal of the caps from the bottles will be eliminated.
In the modified form'of the invention, the flanges 23 are arranged in inverted stepped relation as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4: and the distances between the flanges and the companion shelves increase progressively from one end of the back plate to the other inaccordance with the sizes of the bottles.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of employing my improved milk bottle holder and protector will be readily apparent.
It will be seen that I have provided a device of the class described wherebymilk bottles may be securely locked against removal and the mouths of the bottles protected.
1 claim:
1. A milk bottle holder comprising a back plate, shelves formed on the lower edge of said plate and projecting outwardly therefrom at right anglesthereto and designed to receive the lower ends of the milk bottles, a cap plate hinged to the upper edge of said back plate and designed to inclose the mouths of, the bottles, and a flange formed on the marginal edge of said cap plate and depending therefrom and formed of semicircular sections corresponding in number with the said shelves and decreasing in length progressively from one end of said back plate to the other.
2. A milk bottle holder comprising a back plate, a shelf formed on said plate adjacent to the lower edge thereof and project ing outwardly therefrom at right angles thereto and designed to receive the lower end of the milk bottle, a flange formed on the marginal edge of said shelf and projecting upwardly therefrom and designed to inclose the lower end of the milk bottle, a cap plate mounted upon said back plate adjacent to the upper end thereof, a flange formed on the lower edge of said cap plate and depending therefrom and de signed to inclose the mouth of the milk bottie, a hinge connection between one. end of said flange and the back plate, a keeper-secured to said back plate adjacent to the remaining end of the flange on said cap plate, the keeper end of the flange on said cap plate being formed to engagesaid keeper, and a lock for locking'said flange to said keeper.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
