Description
W. R. McCAY.
TICKET HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED FEB-18,1915- Lfiflm, Patented Feb. 1, 1916.
lwvwtoz WRM CH Y a citizen of the United States, residing at SATES TICKET-HOLDER.
T0 all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. McCAY,
New Castle, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented cer win new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 1
This invention relates to certain improvements in ticket holders and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in tickets of a character generally employed in connection with the delivery of milk or the like; and an object of the invention isto provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby a ticket may be supported with convenience and facility by a container, such as a milk bottle or the like.
Furthermore, it is an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the ticket, when engaged with the device and when the device is applied to' the container, will be positioned edgewise in substantially a vertical plane so that less of its surface will be exposed to the elements, especially rain or snow.
It is also anobject of my invention'to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same may be suspended in an inoperative position with the ticket applied thereto and whereby the possibility of disengagement of the ticket from the device is substantially entirely eliminated. I
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several-parts of my improved ticket holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in perspective illus trating a ticket holder constructed in ac-- cordance with an embodiment of my in- Speoification of Letters Patent.
its length toaiford a plurality of substantially concentric coils 1 and with the free extremities 2 thereof disposed on suitable curvatures, said curvatures being arranged In opposite directions whereby spring jaws are afforded to permit the device to be readily -applied to or removed from the neck of a milk bottle B or other suitable container. It is to be observed that the extremities 2 are in substantial alinement and project substantially radially from the coils 1 and occupy a plane parallel to the axlal centers of said coils whereby the coils 1 will be substantially vertically disposed when the device is operatively engaged with a container.
.As is believed to be self-evident, the ticket T is adapted to be forced between the coils 1 and clampingly engaged thereby and it will be at once perceived thatthe ticket T will thus" be held edgewise in a vertical plane and thus less of its surface will be exposed to the elements, particularly rain or the like. The end portions of the extremities 2 are bent rearwardly to afiord the hook 3 and the eye 4, said hook and eye being positioned in substantial perpendicularly related planes, with the hook 3 positioned in a plane substantially parallel to the coils 1, whereby it will be perceived that thought to be obvious that a ticket holder constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification w'thout material l Ilatented Feb. 1, 1916. I Application filed February 18, 1M5. Serial No. 9,198. l
departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to Y be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a single length of Wire bent intermediate its length to afford a plurality of substantially concentric coils, the free end portions of the wire being reversely curved and radiating from the axial center of the coils and disposed in substantial alinement,
said free end portions occupying a plane parallel to the axial center of the coil, the extremity of one free end portion being formed into an eye and the similar extremity of the second free end portion being formed into a hook, said hook and eye occupying perpendicularly related planes, the hook being disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the coils.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of a Witness.
WILLIAM R. MoCAY. Witness:
J. CLYDE GILFILLAN.
