Application filed .Tune 5, 1914. Serial No. 843,175.
T0 allffwhom t may concern.'
Be le-known that LMosEs M. MARcUsE, a citizen ofthe United States, and resident of the borough o'f Manhattan, in the city and State of lNew York, have invented a newl and useful lImprovement in Containers for Toilet Requisites, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to a container for i ltoilet requisites, which is particularly well adapted4 for delivering inter-folded sheets of paper, as, for instance, paper towels, ar-
ranged in a4 stack within the receptacle.
The object of this invention is to provide '1.5 'certain improvements in the construction,
' ,fi-A of rig. a.
. The front wall of the 'receptacle is denoted by 1; its bottom, formed by inclined or receding upper and lower members, by 2, 3; its ends by 4, 5; its back by 6; and its top by 7. The front wall 1 is hinged at8 andits free end is provided with a suitable` I lock 9 controlled by a key 10. The bolt 11 of the lock is arranged to engage an inwardly turned peripheral flange. 12 which extends around the front of the receptacle. This flange 12 serves to materially strengthen the receptacle at this point. A sheet de livery slot 13 extends horizontally across the inclined bottom of the receptacle and it is formed between the adjacent edges of the' upper land lower bottom members 2 and 3;
Tofacilitate the removal of the interfolded sheets and to reduce 4the friction thereon,`
the adjacent edges of these upper and lower bottom members are curved outwardly 4as shown at 14, 15, to form convexed walls for the slot 13. A yielding false bottom or take up device is located in close proximity to the slot 13 and comprlses, in the present inf stance, a plate 16, hinged to the back at 17.
This plate is interposed between the. int/er-v Jfolded sheets and the lower member 3an'd springs 18 are located' between the plate 16 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11, 1916..
and the lower member 3, thereby serving to hold the plate 16 normally away from the lower member 3. The free end of the plate- 16 is curved Loutwardly as shown at 16*, so as to conform with the convexed wall 15 60 of the slot 18.
A follower 19, hinged at 20 to the front wall 1, is provided with lingers 21, which are arranged to automatically exert pressure upon the interfolded stack' of vsheets 65 when it has decreased to approximately` a predetermined point. A series of abutments 22 are arranged upon the front Wall 1, and the follower 19, so as to prevent the edges of the stack from flipping up and becoming` displaced as the sheets are drawn from the bottom.
To utilize the space within the receptacle' i at the top, a partition 23 is secured to the receptacle, which partition forms the bottom of a container for -such articles as a comb and brush, etc., (not shown). The top 7 is hinged at 24 to the back and provided with a suitable lock 25 vcontrolled by4 a lrey 26. The bolt 27 of the lock is adapted 89 to engage a peripheral flange 28, which eX- tends around `the top of the receptacle.
The hinged front wall 1. of the receptacle may be provided with a suitable windovva` by'means of which it may be' ascertained85 when the supply of sheets within the receptacleis nearly exhausted. A mirror 30 may also be Asecured to the front wall-to complete the toilet requisite. y
The container may be secured to a Wall or support by means of straps 31, 32, 33, fixed to the back 6.
The yielding false bottom 16 is arranged within the container to reduce.the friction causedby the sheet in posit-ion to be deliv- .95 ered carrying the leading edge of the next succeeding interfolded sheet upwardly with it "so as 'to present its leading edge through the slotV 13 fonthe next delivery. This upward movement of the leading edge of each 1.00 sheet would cause it to crowd until it became crimped and, wrinkled were it not for the yielding of the false bottom which gives ample room for the pulled sheet and the sheet to be turned. The false bottom' re- 105 turns to its normal position as soon as the pulled sheet is removed from the container.
The front wall 1 is permitted to swing to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig.
3, in which position`the container may be invention, anni hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the structure herein shown and described, but
l/Vhat claim is:- y l. A container for a stack of interfolded sheets having aninclined bottom with a de- .Y
livery slot therethrough and a yielding false bottom' Within `he-container et thebotton thereof.
2. A container for a steek of nterolded presence of two Witnesses, this sheets having a delivery Slot in its boi-tom, e front door for the oonainer and a follower hinged io the door and arranged io the top of the stack when the stack decreased to substantially a preetermined point. l
E. A container for a stack of interfoided sheets having an inclined bottom with e clelivery slot. therethrough and a, springpressed yielding false bottom hinged eik the beck of the container and having its free end in proxmiv'gy to the delivery slo.
in testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, have signed my name in 22nd day or" May, 1914.
