To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. CRAB- TREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Buckets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to collapsible buckets and aims to provide a type of bucket for use particularly by drivers of motor vehicles, picnic parties, etc., where it is desired to have a bucket to occupy a relatively small compass when not in use and which may be extended to have an appreciable capacity.
The main object of my invention is to provide a structure which will at all times maintain the various sections comprising the bucket in such assembled relation that they may be readily extended. In other words, I aim to so construct my bucket to prevent the sections thereof from falling apart and scattering.
Still a further object of my invention is to provide grips whereby the bucket may be very readily extended when desired.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a partial vertical central section in partial elevation, of my collapsible bucket shown extended, Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of my bucket shown collapsed.
In carrying out my invention, I have provided a plurality of tubular sections, each section being slightly tapered and preferably made in seamless fashion. The upper section 1, I make of a somewhat greater height than the intermediate sections 2 and the bottom section 3 for a purpose presently to be described. This upper section is also provided with a bead 1 by curling over its top edge and is further provided with a bail 5 attached thereto in any desired manner and shown as engaging the hollow attaching members 6. Passing diametrically through this upper section is a rod 7 whose ends are riveted over as at 8 to prevent its accidental removal, these riveted portions preferably being beneath the attaching memhere 6 to give a more finished appearance.
As stated, all of the sections 1, 2 and 3 are preferably made seamless and are ta' pered in the manner suggested in the drawing, to frictionally engage each other when in extended position. The lower section 3 has its base portion pressed upwardly as indicated at 9 in a manner to form an annular ridge 10. From this construction, it will be apparent that the entire base portion does not come into contact with the ground when the bucket is temporarily not in use. The bottom is further provided with a second inwardly pressed portion designated 11, this portion being so formed to permit the passing of a rod 12 therethrough. This rod, as will be seen, passes externally of the bucket and has its ends riveted over, as shown at 18. When it is desired to extend the bucket from the position shown in Fig. 2, the rods 7 and 12 are grasped and in this manner both form handles. Further, the upper rod 7 effectually prevents the accidental or ready separation of the various sections forming the bucket.
What I claim, is:
1. A collapsible bucket comprising a plurality of tubular telescoping sections, the upper of said sections being of greater height than the remainder, and a rod passing through from one side to the other of said upper section in a position to prevent escape of the remaining sections out through the top of said upper section.
2. A collapsible bucket comprising a plurality of tubular telescoping sections, the upper of said sections being of greater height than the remainder, a rod passing diametrically through said upper section in a position to prevent escape of the remaining sections out through the topmost of said sections, the lower section being provided with a bottom having an upwardly pressed portion, and a second rod passing diametrically through said upwardly pressed portion.
