SLIGEE, GEATER, AND SHRED DER.
To all whom it may concern Ee it known that we, JoHN ROBERT SPEN- oni: and JAMES Lnsmn Ross, citizens of the United States, residing at Bartow, in the county of Polk and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slicers Graters, and Shredders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved machine 10 for slicing, grating and shredding vegetables, fruits and the like and adapted for household, restaurant and hotel use and also adapted for use in other places, the obJect of the invention being to provide an improved 15 machine of this character which 15 provided with a series of interchangeable cylinders each adapted for doing a difi'erent kind of work, so that the same machine may, he used for slicing, grating and'shredding.
The invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed;
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective View of a machine con- 25 structed in accordance with ourinvention,
showing the same with the slicing cylinder in place and with the follower lid raised. Fig. 2'is a transverse sectional view of the same with the rotary stripping cylinder in Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same with thecombined grating and shredding cylinder in place.
v In accordance with our invention we provide'a suitable base 1 on which is secured a metal plate 2 said metal plate being 40 wall 8. Said wall 8 is secured to the rear wall of the plate Qend said members are secured to the side pieces of said plate and co-act therewith to form standards each of which has a bearing opening 9 and an inclined slot 10 leading to said bearing open ing. The upper ends of the standards are semi-circular in torm or substantially so and each standard is provided on its outer nil has a slot 13 concentric with its pivot. rear wail has an outturned roll is: upper edge Asubstantially semitubn- IOllOWGl and cover plate 15 is hinged at ower edge on a rod 16 between the standat a point slightiy in front 5" t e "with a catch 1?. which ispivoted as grating studs 37 the other i al specification of Letters Eatent. Patem md Nqpw, 114;, 1916,, application filed s in 6, i915. Serial no. 19 ,508.
stops 17 at its ends and also has a finger. piece 18. Conical hollow teeth or studs 19 are formed on the inner side of the follower or cover plate by punching the same from so the outer side.
We also provide a series of interchangeable cylinders for co-action with the cover and follower plate in slicing, shredding or grating fruits, vegetables or the like, these cylinders being interchangeable so that any one of them may be mounted on the supporting frame formed by the plate and reinforcing member and used in connection v with the follower and cover plate. "it The cylinder 21.is for slicing and-is formed with diagonal slots the outer sides of which are formed by diagonal. cutting edges 27. One end of the said cylinder is closed by a headLQS which has a trunnion E5 29 adapted to be mounted in the bearing opening of one of the standards, and squared for engagement by a crank 30 wher by said cylinder may be rotated. The other end of the cylinder is closed by a removable cover 31 which has a trunnion 32 adapted to be mounted in the other hearin The catches may be turned upwardly to engage their slots with the trunnions of the cylinder so as to hold the latter in its bearings. The material to be sliced placed on the cylinder and gets pressed against the same by pushing downwardly on the follower and the cover plate. The cylinder is revolved in the required direction to cause its diagonal cutting edges to out the material in slices which passes inwardly through the diagonal slctsinto the cylinder. Mien the material has been thus siice-d the follower and cover plate is raised, the catches disengaged from the trunnions, cylinder is raised and i moved. from. i bearings the emcvabie e-JL cover in one of he cylin removed fad connection, with supporti cover plate and foilower. is formed a smell perm,
Any suitable number of cylinders-may be interchangeably used in my machine and may be provided with any suitable kinds of teeth or other devices according to the nature of the work desired.
The machine may also be made of any suitable size and shape and of any suitable material.
Having thus described our invention we claim r A machine of the class described comprising a pair of spaced standards, a toothed cylinder journaled in the standards, an arlimit the inward movement of the follower.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
