FEED AND MEDICAMENT TROUGH.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMns C. MENDEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Titusvillc, in the county of Brevard and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed and Medicament Troughs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved trough which is used for holding feed and medicament, the feed acting as a bait' so that chickens will step into the medicament trough and thus have their feet and legs covered with the liquid medicament while eating from the feed trough. This device is particularlv adapted for curing what is known as scaly legs, coal oil being placed in. the trough together with water sothat while the chickens are eatingfrom the feed trough, the oil will be applied to the legs.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this trough that the covers for the liquid troughs can be closed when it is not desired to use the device as a medicament trough and may be swung open when so desired thus providing gang-ways leading to the medicament trough.

This invention is illustrated in the accOmpanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved feed and medicament troughs.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view through the feed and medicament troughs.

The medicament trough 10 is provided with covers 11 which are hinged to the trough as shown at 12 and provided with strips 13 permitting the chickens to easily walk up the covers when swung to the position shown in Fig. 1. The feed trough 14 is provided with openings 15 through which access may be had to theinterior of the feed trough and is provided with end flanges 16 for releasably holding closures 17 in place. Brackets 18 are connected with the feed trough and secured to the side walls of the medicament trough 10 by means of rivets 19 Specification of Letters Patent.

thus firmly holding the feed trough in e11- gagement with the walls of the medicament trough.

When this device is in use, water is placed in the medicament trough and coal oil is then poured upon the water. Feed of some type is placed in the feed trough and the device is then ready for use. The covers 11 are turned back to the position shown in F 1 thus forming gang-ways up which the chickens may easily walk. Upon reaching the medicament trough 10, the chickens will hop down into the trough in order to reach the feed in the feed trough 14 and in doing so, will get the feet and legs covered with the coal oil. This coal oil is a very good cure for what is known as scaly legs and it will thus be seen that with this device, the coal oil can be applied to the chickens legs without it being necessary to catch and hold the chickens while applying the coal oil. If it is desired to simply use the device as a feed trough, the covers 11 can be closed. It is obvious that any other type of medicament could be placed in trough 10.

What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a base forming a receptacle, a trough extending across said base intermediate its length, and covers for the space between said trough and the ends of said base serving as gang-ways when moved to an open position.

2. A device of the character described comprising a base, a trough extending across the base and having its walls provided with inlet openings, flanges carried by said trough, and removable closures releasably held in a position to cover the inlet openings by said flanges.
