ROBERT N. SHELLEY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
TOWEL-PAPER HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May ll, 1991?.
Application filed December 17, 1915. Serial No. 67,373.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT X. SHELLEY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Towel-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to holders for what is known as towel paper, and the. object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class designed for use in hotels, restaurants, bar rooms and other places, and which will also be sanitary in construction anduse, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed and operating as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view on the line 11 of Fig. 2; and,
Fig. 2 is a similar view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing I have shown at a a box or casing, which is rectangular in form and one side of which is provided with a door a hinged at a and provided with a suitable lock device a.
Detachably mounted in supports a in the casing a is a roll of towel paper I) below which is rotatably mounted in suitable bearing members a a roller 0, the face of which is provided with teeth or projections 0 below which is rotatably mounted a drum d which is also mounted in bearing members a. The drum (Z is provided with teeth or projections to correspond with the roller 0.
The drum is provided on its opposite ends with flanges d-, and said ends of the drum (1 are also provided with spaced pins 01 and d which are adapted to operate in connection with lock devices (2 pivoted at e to the corresponding side of the casing, and one end 6 of which is heavier than the other end e, and the end 6 is normally supported by a. pin 6 The end 0 normally extends upwardly to an extent sufiicient to make contact with the pin d and to permit said pin d to depress said end e and raise the end e so that the pin (P will strike said end, when the pin (1* has reached the outer edge of the end a, which operation is illustrated in full and dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The towel paper on the roll I) is passed between the roller 0 and drum d and down through an aperture a in the bottom of the casing a, and the operation of this apparatus will be as follows :The end of the towel paper normally extends a predetermined distance beyond the casing a as shown at f, and with the position of the towel paper shown in full lines in Fig. 1, and presuming that the pins (2 and al are in the dotted line position, and the lock devices in their full line position, afpull on the extended end of the paper will turn the drum d and 0perate the lock devices to depress the ends e thereof, which operation raises the ends 6 of said lock devices and the pins (i will strike the ends 0 of the lock devices as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 thus stopping the rotation of the drum d. The towel paper will break at the point P or may be torn off, after which the end 6 of the lock device will drop back into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, and the apparatus is again in position for use, and I have also indicated in Fig. 1, in dotted lines, at
the part of said paper that has been withdrawn from the casing in the above described operation.
It will be understood that the circumfer ence of the drum (1 will determine the length of the towel paper withdrawn from the casing a, or the length of the paper withdrawn from the casing will be the same as the circumference of said drum.
My invention is not limited to the specific form or construction of the roller c, the drum d nor the lock device e, and the method of stopping the movement of the drum d at intervals, and changes in and modifications of the various details of construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit ofmy invention or sacrlficing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for towel paper comprising a casing adapted to support a roll of paper and provided with an aperture to permit the passage of said paper therefrom, a drum mounted in the bottom portion of said casring, and a roller mounted parallel with said drum and in cooperative connection there with and between which and said drum the 5 paper is passed, said drum being provided at an end thereof with spaced stop pins, and a lock device pivotally supported in the casing and operating in connection with said stop pins.
2. A holder for towel paper, comprising a casing adapted to support a roll of paper and provided with an aperture'to permit the passage of said paper therefrom, a drum 'mounted in the bottom portion of said ass 5 ing, and a roller mounted over said drum and in cooperative connection therewith and between Which-and said drum the paper is passed, said drum being provided on the opposite ends thereof with spaced stop elements, and pivotally supported lock de- 20 vices operating in connection with said stop elements.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the 'subscribingwitnesses this 25 15th day of December, 1915.
