Description

A. J. FARRELL. PAPER HOLDER. APPLICATION 'FVILED OCT. I8. 1916.
WITNESSES Patented June 12, 1917.
'r are PAPER-HOLDER.
Application filed October 18, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. FARRELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, county of Alle-. gheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper holders especially designed for holding rolls of toilet paper and has for its object to pro vide a holder of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, with means that can be readily and quickly sprung into and out of engagement with the ends of a roll of paper for suspending or for. removing the roll from the support to which the holder is attached, and further at the .same time not interfering with the revolving of the roll of paper mounted in the holder when withdrawing the paper off the roll.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a toilet paper holder which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use, readily attached to a support, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll paper holder, in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail in plan.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the holder consists of a yoke-shaped element formed from a single strip of fiat metal and includes an intermediate portion 8 and a pair of arms 9, 10, which project from the termini of the intermediate portion 8 and are disposed at right angles with respect to said portion 8.
The intermediate portion 8 is formed with a plurality of openings 11 for the passage of any suitable means for securin said element to a support. The intermediate por Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatented June 12, 1917.
Serial No. 126,308.
tion 8, in proximity to one of the openings 11, is slitted, as at 12, 13, and the material freed by the slits is pressed forward to provlde a retaining member 14.
The arm 9 merges into one end of the intermediate portion 8 and at the point of mergence slits 15 are provided and the material freed by the slits is pressed forward to form a retaining member 16. At the point of merge nce between the arm 9 and intermediate portion 8, near the top thereof, slits 17 are provided and the material freed by said slits is pressed forward to form a retaining member 18. The arm 9 intermediate its ends is slitted, as at 19, and the material freed by the slits is pressed forward of the arm 10 to provide a retaining member 20.
The arm 9, as well as the arm 10, at the free terminus thereof, has connected therewith a cylindrical bearing 21. The bearings 21 are arranged on the inner faces of the arms 9, 10 and project toward each other.
Extending between the retaining members 16, 18 is a vertically disposed headed pin 22, carrying on its lower end a nut 23 which is arranged below the retaining member 16 and said nut 23, in connection with the head of the pin 22, prevents the latter from becoming disconnected from the yokeshaped element. Surrounding the pin 22 and interposed between the members 16 and 18 is a coiled spring 24, having one end thereof, as at 25, extending between the retaining member 14 and intermediate portion 8. The other end of the spring 24 is extended, as at 26, and projects between the retaining member 20 and the arm 9. The function of the spring 24 is to cause the arm 9 to have a tendency to spring toward the arm 10 for the purpose of maintaining a roll of paper connected with the yoke shaped element when the roll is mounted upon the bearings 21. When releasing the roll the arm 9 is sprung in the direction away from the arm 10 and after pressure upon said arm 9 is relieved the arm will be caused to spring toward the arm 10 due to the action of the spring 24 in the manner in which the spring 24 is set up with respect to the intermediate portion 8 and arm 9.
What I claim is A roll paper holder comprising a yokeshaped element including an intermediate portion and a pair of supporting arms, each of said arms having its free end pro vided with an inwardly extendin bearing for one end of a roll of paper, sai element at that point of mergenee between an arm and the intermediate portion having a pair both ends thereof extended, means for s1id-,
ably connecting one of the extended ends of said spring against the inner face of said intermediate portion, and means for slidably connecting the other extended end of said spring to the inner face of said arm 1 whereby the latter'will have a tendency to spring toward the other of said arms.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
