PAPER RECEPTACLE. APPLICATION FILED IULY 10 19,15.
Patented July 17, 1917.
HARRY LOWE .ND PAUL BROGKETT, 0F WASHINGTON,
:DISTRICT or COLUMBIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led July 10, 1915. Serial No. 39,105.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRY F. LOWE and PAUL BROCKETT, citizens of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paperl Receptacles, ofwhich the following -is a specification.
This invention relates to certa-in new and useful improvements in paper receptacles particularly to receptacles used as a container for lubricants, pastes and like substances.
The primary object of the invention is to A provide a container for the aforementioned ,denced in the course purposes which is made of paper so as to avoid or eliminate metal in the body construction, since metal, especially tin, is becoming scarce and its cost is accordingly increasing.
A further object of the invention is toy provide improved means for effecting connection of the neck or spout of the container with the paper body, which means allows the connection to be effected mechanically Klithout the use of adhesives, tacks, or the A still further object of the invention is to provide a paper receptacle the body of which is reinforced so as to assure same withstanding rupture or breakage'in use, and to provide a receptacle which is of economical construction and which possesses minimum of parts.
Further and other objects of the invention will be later herein set forth and eviof the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side tion;
Fig. 2 is a Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a section on Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a of the key, y
Fig. 5 is a side elevation ofthe ring; and
Fig. 6 is a like view of the neck.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the body is formed of elevation of the invensection on the line 2 2 of the line 3 3 of plan view, partly broken away,
securing paper reinforced by a sheet of gauze, the
of 2 as indicated at 3, whereupon a sheet of gauze 4 is inserted and placed on top of the wound paper and wound thereabout to form a second layer andl is of a width to terminate in proximity but beyond the point 3 aforementioned, whereupon the remainder of the continuous endless paper sheet 1 is then wound about and over the gauze sheet and beyond the point 3. In this process the materials used in the construction of the walls are bound together with any suitable waterproofing adhesive, such as one containing paraffin, which permeates the walls, filling the pores of the paper and gauze, making them impervious to fatty and resinous substances, liquids and substances whichl easily liquefy. The whole then constitutes a tube of any shape, the walls of which are made up of two layers of paper reinforced and strengthened by a layer of gauze in and between.
The body after formation ,is in tubular form, and is then ready to receive the neck portion which latter consists of a neck proper 7 formedof wood or paper composition, or other suitable material, having a circularly flanged base 8. The flanged base 8 is inserted in an end of the tubularbody and the latter is then gathered in the form of a reinforced collar to cover and snugly embrace the periphery of the base 8, following which a metal'disk`l 9 having a central aperture to receive the neck is placed over the latter, the disk 9 having a depending flange or skirt 10, of a diameter to engage above and around the free edge portions of the body that are gathered about the periphery of the flanged base 8. The disk 9 is moved down so as to seat on top of the end of body 1 which latter is bent to extend inwardly over the flanged base 8, and by means of a` threaded onto the neck, as depicted in the drawings, or may be ately held thereto, so as to enable removal and replacement as desired.
t is particularly to, .be noted that the neck maybe made of any desired length so as to serve as av spout to allow the easy and expeotherwise appropri- Patented July 17, 1111"?.
or rojected into the base- We I cases where-the device is used to feed lubricant, to the transmission or other parts of an automobile.
The device as above described. and assembled is now ready for filling, the substance being.
opposlte end of the receptacle, and upon completion of the filling operation, the last named end of the body is then flattened in a straight line,
and doubled over onto the flattene shank 13 of a suitable key 14, following which a strip of metal of U-shape in cross section is laced over the doubled over edge of the bo y end, and secured by the formation of teats 15 in a manner similar to the formation of the teats 10 as hereinabove described.
What is claimed is:
1. In a paper receptacle, a body, a neck having a` circularly anged base, the body having an open end which is gathered about the periphery of the iianged base, and a disk havlng an opening which receives the neck and which seats on top of the base, said disk having an integral depending skirt which engages above and around the gathered parts of the body, and said' skirt having teats forced outwardly therefrom and projected' through the body gatherings into the base of the neck. p
2. Ina paper rece tacle, a body open at one end, a iianged nec inserted in said body end, said body end being of tubular form to engage over the flange periphey and being inturned over the outer face o the ange and means seating on the inturned end oi the body to hold the same on the outer face of the ange and embracing the part of the introduced through the open lower or body that e ges the periphery of said neck flange to hol the body end on the neck.
` 3. In a paper receptacle, a body open at one' end, a neck having a an e about the periphery of which the 'open en of the body is contracted,`and a disk apertured to receive the neck and provided with a depending flange encircling theycontracted body portion to retain the same inclose embrace with the periphery of the neck flan e.
4. In a paper receptacle, a 'od open at one end, a neck having a ilange about which the body engages and over which saihbody is bent to engae the upper face of"the ilange, and a di apertured to receive the neck and seat on the inturned end of the A body to hold the same on the upper face of the neck flange, said disk having a skirt surrounding' the adjacent part of the body to hold it in closeembrace with the neck ange.
5. In a paper receptacle, an open ended body having an axially extending collar, a
' neck which the collar closely embraces, and
an apertured disk receiving the neck and extending over the edge of the collar, said disk having a part depending about the periphery of the collar and said depending part having means for securing the collar to the neck, said securing means extending radi-` ally through the collar.
