COT-HANGEE.
pecieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19 1918.
.application led February 6, 1917. Serial No. 146,933.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, SIEGMUND BACH.- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coatfrlangers, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention. relates more particularly to -hangers constructed of cardboard or similar material provided more especially ror use in combination with containers, such as boxes, for receiving garments, including coats, wherein the garment-hanger extends through a slot in a side of the container and by which the container is suspended either on a hook., in the cese of storage, or from the hand of .a person grasping the protruding part of the hanger.
lady object is to provide a hanger which may be economically constructed and which shall present the requisite degree of strength for supporting a coat, especially when the latter is folded over the hanger and inclosed in container et the character above reierred to, wherein the garment is maintained in unmussed condition.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,*
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a suitcontainer and hanger, the'latter being constructed in accordance with my invention..
Figs. 2 and 3 are similar views of the two telescopingsections forming the bon of Fig. i. l l
Fig. L1 is a perspective view of the han er.
Fig. 5 is a broken View in section ta en through the top of the box, through which the handle portion of the hanger entends; and Fig. 6, a section taken at the line 6 on Fig. 5 and viewed in the direction of the arrow.
in the accompanying drawing l have illustrated my improved hanger as provided more especially for coperation with a suit-container wherein the upper portion of the hanger extends through a side of the container and serves as a means of supporting the latter. Such a boX is represented at 7 it being formed of the two telescoping sections 8 and 9 containing registering slots vin one side, as indicated at 10 and 11.
The hangerrepresented at 19.. is formed of relatively heavy board, such as pasteboard, presenting at its upper edge a handle-section 13 containing a slot 14 which is adapted to be projected through the slot in the box, as represented in Fig. 1. The body of the hanger is reinforced by-the sections 16 and 17, each of which at its upper end is of the shape of the Section 13 of the body-portion yand is provided with ,a wing 19. The members 16 and 17 lie fiatwise together and the member 17 fiatwise against the body-portion, these'reinforcing sections being so disposed that the wings 19 extend beyond the sections carrying them and overlap the portion of the body of the hanger below the section 13 and in this position are secured to the body as by the staples 18, the upper edges of the wings 19 being preferably substantially flush with the upper edges 15 of the body.A In the actual manufacture of the hangers these reinforcing members 16 and 17 may be cut from what would otherwise be the waste board at the upper corners of the hangers. .l
What I claim as new and desire to secure lby Letters Patent is':
A garment-hanger comprising a body section of sheet material, and having'a' relatively narrow section at its upper end, and reinforcing members carried by the hanger and arranged iiatwise relative to said section and the adjacent part of said body portion, said reinforcing members being each provided with a part whichprojects from one end only thereof, with said members so arranged that said projecting portions extend in opposite directions from and beyond said section.
