Description

C. J. MARRIOTT.
SANITARY FLOOR CLEANING DEVICE. APPLICATION'EILED AUG-14,1915.
11,255,9UQ. Patented Feb. 12, 1918.
CHARLES JARVIS MARRIOTT, OF COMFORT TOWNSHIP, KANAIBEG COUNTY, MINNESOTA.
SANITARY FLOOR-CLEANING- DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. f2, 1918.
Application filed August 14, 1915. Serial No. 45,453.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that 1, CHARLES JARVIS MAR- mom", a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the township of Comfort, county of Kanabec, and State of Minnesota, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Floor-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in scrubbing pans and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character adapted to facilitate the scrubbing and drying of floors.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which 7 Figure 1 is a perspective View of a scrubbing pan and cooperating brush embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2, a vertical section of the pan.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a rectangular sheet metal pan 3 open at one side and provided with an upwardly and inwardly inclined sheet metal entry trough 7 Copies of this patent may be obtained for 4 projecting slightly outwardly and downwardly beyond the edge of said pan and upwardly and inwardly well into the same. At its inner edge trough 4 isprovided with a depending reinforcing flange or lip 5 which serves to stiffen the inner edge of trough against bending or distortion. On its bottom opposite trough 4 pan 3 is provided with a depending centrally positioned foot 6 adapted to cooperate with the outer edge of trough 4: to support the pan in a substantially horizontal position on the floor. At its side opposite trought pan 3 is provided with a substantially vertically extending water guard 7 extending entirely across the corresponding side of the pan and partially along each adjoining side, said guard being slightly outwardly bent to con stitute a spout 8 to facilitate the discharge of water from said pan. Two bails 9 are secured to opposite sides of pan 3 at slight distances apart to facilitate the carrying of said pan without tilting of the same.
Coiiperating with the pan 3 is a scrubbing brush comprising a head 10 having bristles 11 on one side and a flexible rubber strip 12 on another side, said strip 12 constituting a squeegee.
In use the floor may be scrubbed in the usual manner by means of bristles 11 on brush 10. After the scrubbing is completed if it is desired to dry the floor the water on the floor is forced upwardly through trough 4 into the pan 3 by means of the squeegee 12 as will be readily understood. This water will be retained in the pan by virtue of the fact that trough 4 projects upwardly well above the same and may be readily discharged through spout 8 when desired. The guard 7-8 intercepts any drops of water thrown by the squeegee thus facilitating the drying operation and preventing splashing of ad oining obects.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A scrubbing pan comprising a body portion having a bottom and side members, an entry trough extending the full width of the pan and comprising an upwardly and rearwardly inclined bottom portion and vertical side portions, the forward edge of said bottom portion extending below the bottom of the body and the upper edge terminating considerably below the upper edges of the side members of the body and a guard at the rear end of said body portion extending the full width thereof and comprising a back bent in horizontal cross section to form a discharge spout and vertical side elements having their lower ends secured to the side members of the body portion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES JARVIS MARRIOTT.
