Be it known that I, THAnEUs B. LnszczYNsKi, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook .and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Chair-Fan, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This-invention relates to fans and particularly to an improved chair fan, and has for an object the provision of an arrangement whereby a slight movement of thechair to which the device is connected will cause the proper operation.

Another object in view is to provide a fan for a chair which includes a freely swinging fan member and a support rigidly connected to the chair so that when the chair is oscillated orrocked back and forth the fan will be waved.

A still further object in view is to provide an improved clamp for clamping a chair, the same being arranged to hold a fan support or umbrella, as occasion may demand.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 indicates a rocking chair of any desired kind, to which the clamp 2 is secured, the same being held in place by a thumb screw l3 pressing against part of the back and forcing one of jaws 4 against the back of the chair. Clamp 2 is arranged to support a bar 5 which may be solid or tubular as desired. If bar 5 is made tubular the upper end is provided with a bent-in section 6, as shown in Fig.

3, so as to accommodate the bent-in sectionl 7 of the horizontal bar 8 whereby the parts are telescopically fitted together and are prevented from independent rotation. The bar 8 may be tubular or solid and may have connected therewith a transverse bar 9 in any suitable way, as for instance, by havis a detail perspective view of the the clampmg ing the end 10 bent over or around the bar 9 or welded thereto. Bar 9 is provided with a ring 11 at each end, each of said rings having an opening 12 whereby the eyelets 13 and 14 may be threaded on to the rings as shown in Fig. -2 in order thatthe fan member 15 carrying the eyelets 13 and v14 may freely swing whenever the chair 1 is rocked.

The clamp 2, as shown more. particularly in Fig. 4, is provided with clamping jaws 4 and 4, jaw 4 carrying the clamping screw 3. Extending from jawl 4 is an arm 16, which arm is provided with a cupshaped end 17 (Fig. 5) designed to receive the ball 18, which ball is provided with cutaway portions 19, 20, 21 and 22 merging together at the center, as shown in Fig. 4, said cut-away portions presenting notches for receiving bar 5 or an umbrella when the device is used for holding an umbrella-in position. A ring v23 isarranged in the ball 8, said ring being formed with an opening 24 and a threaded shaft 25, said threaded shaft accommodating the wing nut 26. shaft 25 extends through the bottom of the ball 18 and member 17 and through a washer 27 so that the bar 5 may be drawn toward ball 18 and clamped in any 19 to 22, inclusive. The opening 24 1s provided to accommodate the handle of an umbrella and not necessarily the bar 5. An ordinary umbrella or an umbrella used on the seashore is provided at one end with an enlarged knob or handle and at the opposite end with a folding canopy so that the umbrella rod could not be threaded through a ring. For this reason the opening 24 is provided which will allow the shaft or rod of the umbrella to be forced in side' wise and then the nut 26 tightened until the -rod or shaft has been properly clamped.

What I claim is:

1. In a device of the character described, a clamp for supporting an article comprising a supporting member provided with a rounded socket having an opening therein, a universally adjustable spherical shell ar'- ranged in said socket and provided with a plurality of notches adapted to receive at different times the article to be supported, a ring member surrounding said article, ring member having a threaded extension' projecting through said spherical shell and through said opening, and a nut 'arranged on said threaded extension for drawing said The Y of the notches 2. lln a device of the character described,
