TOILET-CABINET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DADHIEMAR on LABAUME, residing at Bordeaux, France, have invented a new and useful Improved Toilet-Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to an improved combination toilet cabinet more especially adapted for use in positions where space has to be reduced to a minimum such as on board ship, in hotels, trains, corridors and similar places.
Toilet cabinets such as are usually employed for the purpose are either incomplete or defective in operation and the object of the present invention is aycabinet which willgive a maximum of utensils in a minimum of space. I p
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1, is a front elevation of a complete cabinet.
Fig. 2, vertical section on line AB Fig. 1; Fig. 3,, detail views of a seat pivoted or hinged to the cabinet.
Fig. 4;, vertical section of a modified construction of cabinet. I
Fig. 5, front view of the lower part of the cabinet, shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6, plan and elevation ofa waste'or funnel with double outlets.
Fig. 7, plan and elevation of wash-hand basin.
Fig. 8, sectional elevation" of a urinal which can b applied to the lower part of the cabinet.
The cabinet is constructed in the usual shape and can be ornamented inanyway desired by the maker. A bracket a for gas or electricity, is affixed to the upper part of the cabinet for lighting it. Below this bracket a shelf 12 is arranged for books or trinkets. Below the shelf 5 is a cupboard 0 for holding difierent articles such as water bottles, glasses, and the like and serving also to con tain an electrical heating apparatus for heat-' ing the water upplied to the wash-hand basin. The panel closing the cupboard is made in a single piece and is provided on its outer face with a mirror. It is covered by two smaller doors 0? hinged to the sides of the cabinet; the inner faces of the doors d are also provided with mirrors, so that when open they form with the panelclosing the cupboard a three sided mirror which is arranged to be inclined at will on its horizontal Specification of Letters Patent;

axis as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 to alheight-abracket f carrying a wash-hand bowl 9 of the shape shown in Fig. 7 The washhand bowl gls located in the cabinet when they bracket f is closed. The bracket 7 is provided on its outer face with a mirror h which can be covered by apanel i pivoted to the bracket 7: When the bracket 7 is in its closed positlon the panel 2' may assume a horizontal posltion to form a writing or toilet table, the mirror 72, being-used by the person using When the bracket f is closedthe washhand bowl is automatically emptied into the waste funnel fixed in the interior of the cabinet and having on its upper edge a rubber the bowl and form a tightjoint.
To provide for the rolling movement on board a ship the funnel J may be provided with two waste outlets 11; so that when the funnel is full of water and the shipslopes to larboard the water escapesthrough one of the outlets and when it slopes to star- -board it escapes through the other'outlet so that the water will not remain stagnant in the bowl; moreover the rubber packing 3' causes the water to pass completely into the funnel J even during rough weather instead of being spilled over the cabinet.
Thewater supply tap 7a, soap tray Z and otherusual accessories are arranged over the bowl 9.
An opening is formed in the front panel of the'cabinet below the bowl 9 to receive an articulated seat m of the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. This seat can be pulled into position by the hand and be used as a seat during toilet or for writing at the table formed by the panel 71.
The seat m is carried on a bar 1 pivoted at one end to a rod 2 and at the other to a su port 3. The rod is pivoted on a stud at,
a ed to the lower part of the cabinet so that when a pull is exerted on the seat to bring it out of the cabinet the rod 2 takes up an inclined position as shown inFig, 3 and the support 3 a vertical position to support the seat. To give more stability to slide easily over the door. The exact positions of the parts are determined by. the person sitting on the seat to give a convenient height for using the table.
The spaces in the lower part of the cabinet at each side of the seat are used to form two small cupboards with doors in one of which a chamber utensil n and in the other a spittoon 0 or other article can be placed as desired. -On the sides of'the cabinet different devices can be arranged such as a coat hook p, a towel rail, a pipe stand 1, an umbrella stand or the like. it can also be provided with an extensible stand 9 to carry a glass and bring it in a positlon near. to a person lying down.
The cabinet above described is particularly applicable foruse on board ship where it must take up as small a space as possible 0n land in hotels for example where more.
space can be utilized the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6 can be employed. I
In this construction the cupboard 0. holds a gas or electric radiator s which permits either hot or cold water to be used as de' sired. The seat is replaced bya foot bath 6 pivoted on a slide a so that it can be turned into the position in the cabinet shown in dotted lines in Fig. i, A waste funnel o receives the water from the bath 2) and taps m supply hot and cold water thereto.
For use in an ofice the'foot bath can be replaced by a towel rail or by a urinal. as
. assesses shown in Fig. 8, the bowl 6 of which can swivel in the waste pipe 7. on which it is mounted. The urinal is turned to bring it out or the cabinet and is turned in the opposits direction to return it thereto. The operation of all the parts described is very simple and the combination of the parts give a maximum ofuses with a minimum of space.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed,- ll declare that what I claim is:
In a toilet cabinet of the character described, the combination of a number of superimposed compartments for receiving various articles of personal use when making toilet,'a pivoted bracket a wash basin carried by said bracket, a waste funnel into which said basin is emptied upon the swingingor" said bracket around its pivot, a rubber packing on said. funnel for cushioning and tightening the joint between basin and funnel, and a mirror arranged on the under side or the bracket carrying the wash-hand basin and a panel pivoted to the bracket toform a table when the-bracket is closed and the mirror uncovered substantially as described. p l
In testimony whereof I afir my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CH. DADHEMAR or LABAUME.
