To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Evnnr HoLLownLL, a citizen of the United States residing at Kansas City, in the county of WVyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hospital- Beds of which the following is a full clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to bed steads for hospitals and seeks to provide a simple and effective form of bed stead, with a tilting and rotatable receiving table.
The tilting of the springs of bed steads is not new, but by providing safety stops to prevent accident from extreme angles of the receiving table and combining means of rotating with the tilting the result is a general utility hospital bed stead and operating table.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved bedstead with a rotatable and longitudinally tilting receiving table the receiving surface of which is preferably formed of ordinary bed springs.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the receiving table that it will stand rigidly transversely of the bed stead side rails so that patients may be placed thereon and a removed therefrom without lifting thcm'over the foot piece, and so that the receiving table maybe used as an operating table.
A still further object of the invention is to provide safety stops so that the receiving table cannot be tilted beyond an angle that will safely allow the patient to remain thereon.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the shapes, improved features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The head piece 1, foot piece 2 and side rails 3, are of common and wellknown construction, the side rails as shown being SQD2\' rable from the head and foot pieces in the usual manner, it being obvious that the side rails may be rigidly connected to the head and foot piece if desired.
The supporting bar at spans the rails 13 transversely near the center of the length of the rails and is bolted thereto by the bolts 7, the rest bar 6 being loosely pivoted to the supporting bar by the center bolt 5, the latter being provided with the spring 8, and nut 9 to resiliently hold the parts 4: and 6 more firmly in horizontal position, and the washer 10 being placed between the bars to form a center bearing so that the rest bar may be more easily rotated over the supporting bar.
To the rest bar 6 are secured the side frames 11, the lower side 12 of the frames being preferably straight and one parallel with the other for the central portion of their length equal to the distance transversely across the side rails 3, and the lower side 12 of the frames being of the same height and even with the upper side 13 of the side rails, so that when the frames are thrown to transverse position as shown in Fig. 4 they will rest rigidly on the side rails.
To the ends 14: of the frames 11 is secured the cross member 15, while to the ends 16 is secured the cross member 17, the cross members being secured to and supporting the receiving table 18, the latter being preferably of ordinary bed spring construction.
To the cross member 17 is pivoted at 19 the adjusting bars 20, which are provided with the holes 21 to engage the pins 22 for the purpose of holding the receiving table 18 level as shown in Fig. l and in the tilted positions shown in full lines and in dotted lines of Fig. 2, also in any intermediate tilted position corresponding to the position of the holes.
The bars 20 are held in position on the pins 2-2 by the keeper pins 28, which are attached to the members A by the chains to prevent displacement and loss of the pins The rectangular strip of metal 96 is secured to the cross member 17 and forms sockets 27 in which may be inserted the foot rests 28, for the purpose of securin a patients feet in certain positions.
The hole 29 is provided for the insertion of the pins 30 for the purpose of holding the receiving table 18 in longitudinal position on the rails 3.
it will be noticed that the cross members 15 and 17 are longer than the width over the frames 11 and project beyond the frames to engage the side rails 3 when the receiving table is tilted to the extreme position in either direction, this feature serving a safety device to prevent the tilting of the table to position that would prevent the patient from remaining thereon.
The receiving table 18 is turned transversely as shown in Fig. and in dotted lines of Fig. 5 so that attendants carrying patients on stretchers may step over the rails and place the patient on the table Without having to lift them over the foot piece 2 as usually the case. A further advantage of turning the receiving table transversely and allowing it to rest firmly by contact of the frames 11 on the rails 3, lies in the fact that in this position the table may be employed as an operating table and dispense with much of the moving of patients from the bed to the operating room and return.
hat I claim, is
1. In a hospital bed the combination of a bedding receiving frame, a bar secured to the sides of said bedding receiving frame, a bar secured to the side rails of a bed, said first mentioned bar supported by said last mentioned bar, means to normally hold said bedding receiving frame in horizontal position, means whereby said bedding receiving frame can be tilted on said last mentioned bar and turned in horizontal direction, and means to prevent said bedding receiving frame from tilting when turned out of alinement with the side rails of the bed.
In a hospital bed the combination of a bedding receiving frame, a bar secured to the 'de rails of a bed, a bar secured to the sidesv of the bedding receiving frame of said bed, means arranged on said bars whereby said frame may be revolved in a horizontal position, said means adapted to allow said frame to be tilted between said rails, means to prevent said frame from being tilted below the rails of said bed, and means to prevent said frame from being tilted when revolved out of alinement with said side rails.
l. in a bed, the combination of a transverse bar connecting and secured to the side rails of a bed, a transverse bar secured to and spread across the bedding receiving frame of the bed, said last mentioned bar resting upon a washer on said first mentioned bar, a 21d said bars pivotally connected by a bolt therethrough whereby said bedding receiving frame can be thrown out of horizontal alineinent with the side rails a nd revolved horizontally.
5. in a hospital bed the combination of a bedding receiving frame, a rest bar secured to tire sides of said bedding receiving frame, a supporting bar secured to the side rails of a bed, said rest bar supported by said supporting bar, and said rest bar and said supporting bar connected by a loosely fitting bolt whereby said bedding receiving frame adapted to tilt and to revolve.
