I Specificafion of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, lSilS.
Application filed June 11, 1917. Serial. No. 174,048.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN S. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, resident of Owatonna, county of Steele, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gum-Wrappers, of
which the. following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide means by which the paper wrapper can be easily and quickly removed from a stick of The invention consists generally in a wrapper substantially as described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a view showing the gum wrappedand sealed, ready for sale,
Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the preferred manner of placing the wrapper on the gum, the edges being turned back to illustrate the gummed surfaces, Fig. 3 illustrates a stick of gum with" my improved wrapper thereon, with the 'per- .forated section partially removed,
Fig. 4 is a view showingthe wrapper inclosing the tinfoil unfolde .In the drawing, 2 represents the tinfoilor other suitable moisture proofwrapper for 3 0 the stick of and 3 is a paper wrapper on which suitable printed matter is placed, and provided at one. end with a ed surface a for stickin to the tinfoil inner wrapper 2, and a simi ar outer surface 5 for adhering to the inner surface 6 of the opposite end of the wrapper. Both. ends of the wrapper have projecting tabs 7 on one-side which are arranged to register when the wrapper is folded and stuck down on the tinfoil, and the ends of the wrapper stuck together. The wrapper is perforated along the lines 8 and 9 and when it is folded and sealed, the edge 'of the end 6, will be in line substantially and i will register'with the perforations 9 and the perforations 8 will be in register with the edge of the end 4, all these parts being secured together by the adhesion of the gummed surfaces.
en the purchaser wishes to remove the wrapper, he. will grasp the tabs Z and a quick pull thereon will tear the strip along the lines 8 and 9 and the adhesion of the wrapper to the tinfoil-will pull it up also, as indicated'in Fig. 3 and expose-the surface of the stick of gum, so that when the tab section has been entirely pulled on, the tinfoil and wrapper will drop from the gum. Usually in gum packages this paper wrapper has to be pulled OK in pieces and (iftentimes it is fitted so snugly that it has to be torn ofi in small bits or will be stuck to the surface and cause breakage lof the I stick before it can be removed. Then when the paper wrapper is taken ofl, there is still the tinfoil to be detached. With any improvem ent the wrapper can be almost instantly takenofi' the stick, at the same time removing a section of the tinfoil and allowing immediate access to the gum.
I claim as my invention:
1. A gum wrapper having a gummed surface on both sides at one end, one of said wrapper holding it on the gum, the ends of said wrapper having tabs arranged to register with each other and said ends being perforated transversely adjacent said tabs, whereby a pull on said tabs removes a section of the wrapper along said perforations and that portion of the tinfoil adhering thereto.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of June, 1917.
