Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,886, dated J une 11, 1872.

To all whom. it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD HUNT, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable Billiard-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following is a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which Figure l is a bottom view of the device illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is atransverse section on line 90 m, Fig. 1.

This invention consists in legs hinged to the under side of the'bed of the billiard-table, and screws passing through the frame thereof for holding the legs in position to support the table. It also consists in a rack and an elastic holder for supportingthe cues beneath the bed of the table. It also consists in an inwardlyopening drawer or drawers, closing outwardly against the side or end piece of the frame of the table. It finally consists in springs in combination with the drawers.

Referring to the drawing, A represents the top and bed of a billiard-table, which may be of ordinary form and construction, and is supported on the frame B. 0 represents the legs of the table. These legs are hinged to the under side of thebed orbottom piece thereof, so as to fold against said bed or piece when the table is not required for use. When the legs are extended they support the table, and are retained in place by screws D, which pass through the end or side-pieces of the frame B and enter the upper portions of the legs, so as to draw the latter firmly against the adjacent portions of the frame and hold them securely and immovably in place. E represents a rack, which is arranged transversely or longitudinally under the bed, and consists of a strip or piece secured to the bed or bottom piece thereof, and having a series of openings, into which will be passed or inserted the cues F, which are further retained in place by an elastic holder, G, arranged relatively under bed, and consisting of a strip of rubber with a series of staples or fastening devices to form 'a number of divisions equal to the. openings in the rack, whereby the cues are held at opposite ends by the rack and elastic strip, respectively. Beneath the bed is hung one or more drawers, H.

In opening the drawer, it is adapted to slide away from the side or end piece of the frame with which it is arranged, and in closing to slide toward the same, so that if the table rests on said side or end piece, the drawer will remain closed, since it has abearing or stop on the side or end piece. The drawer or drawers will receive the balls, chalk, 850., when the table is not in use. In order to hold the drawer in place when the table is laid on the end or side opposite to that wherewith the drawer is arranged, or is being transported, springs J are so located as to press against the drawer and increase the friction between the drawer and its supports.

When it is desired to fold the table for transportation or storage the legs are swung down or removed, and their lower ends inserted in openings in the rack and their upper ends passed under the elastic holder G. The cues are also applied to the rack, and their handle-ends introduced under the holder G. The balls, chalks, &c., are placed in the drawer H, and thus all the movable parts of the game are folded or stowed away and nicely held in place, the under side of the bed forming a complete rack for said parts, as represented in Fig. 1, in which condition the table may be hung up or laid away without danger of escape of the cues, &c. p

-I lay no claim whatsoever to the broad idea or principle of arranging or storing the cues, balls, 8150., beneath the bed of the billiardtable, nor to racks, drawers, or otherwise for such purpose; but,
