BERNARD C. BAYNES, OF EXGELSIOR SPRINGS, MISSOURI.
DRAWER-PULL AND TICKET-HOLDER.
Application filed April 9, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD C. Bnrnns,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Excelsior Springs, in the county of Clay and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Pulls and Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved drawer pull and ticket holder and has as its primary object to provide a deviceof this character which may be attached to the front end of substantially any conventional type of drawer to provide a pull for the object to provide a drawer pull embodying a ticket magazine or supplemental ticket holder which may, if desired, be also used for supporting a ticket bearing further inicia concerning the contents of the drawer. 'Other and incidentalobjects will appear I as the description proceeds. In the drawings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
' with the drawer'pull.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view showing my improved drawer pull and ticket holder applied to a conventional type of drawer, I
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view more particularly showing the construction of the ticket holder of the drawer pull as well as Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1918.
Serial No. 227,541.
Referring more particularly to the draw lngs, I have shown my improved drawer pull and ticket holder in connection with a:
conventional type of drawer 10 which is mounted within a suitable casing 11. In
carrying out the invention, my improved device is preferably constructed from a sin gle piece of suitable resilient sheet metal bent upon itself to provide a finger receiving portion or body 12 from the ends of which extend lateral side members 13 which are gradually tapered from their lower ends toward their upper ends so that the fingerreceiving portion 12 is thus inclined downwardly and outwardly with respect to the base edges of the said members. Projecting laterally from the said base edges of these 1 side members are oppositely directed flanges 14 which are formed to receive screws or other suitable fastening devices for connecting the pull with the front end of the drawer 10. Thus it will be seen that a person desiring to' open the drawer may readily insert r the fingers of one hand beneath the finger receiving portion '12 of the pull, for opening the drawer. At its lower margin the fin er receiving portion'l2 is extended to provide a ticket holding clip 15 rebentupon itself to confront the said finger receiving portion and adapted to coact therewith for receiving the lower margin of a ticket, as conventionally shown at 16, beneath the free extremity of the said clip to be clamped thereby lying flat against the finger receiving portion. The clip will thus firmly support the ticket in position upon the drawer pull for indicating the price of articles contained in the drawer or other information desired,
concerning the contents of the drawer. At the same time, the presence of the ticket upon the drawer pull will not hamper the use of the pull for opening the drawer nor will such use of the pull be likely to result in displacing the ticket.
It is now to be noted that the upper edge of the finger receiving portion 12 of the drawer'pull is spaced from'the outer face of the front end of the drawer and mounted upon the said edge of the finger receiving portion is a ticket magazine shown in detail in Fig. 3 of the drawings. This ticket magazine is also preferably formed from a piece of suitable resilient sheet metal and includes a preferably oblong body 17. of a'length slightly greater than the length of the finger receiving portion of the drawer pull and provided at its ends with confronting flanges 1-8. Depending from the bottom edge of the body adjacent opposite ends thereof are spring arms which are rebent upon themselves to provide resilient loops 19 at the out-er ends of which are formed downwardly presented resilient hooks 20. The ticket magazine is, as particularly shown in Fig. 2, rested fiat against the "front end 01": the drawer and the loops 19 of the arms thereof inserted between the upper edge of the finger receiving portion '12 of the drawer pull and the end of the drawer to engage the hooks 20over the upper edges of the finger receiving portion. These hooks are adapted to resiliently coact with the upper marginof the finger receiving portion for clamping the magazine. to the v:draw er pull while the loops 19 will be .com'
pressed between the said finger receiving portion and the front end of the drawer for vyieldably holding the body 1 flat against the front end of the magazine of the drawer.
- The :ticket magazine will thus be firmly supported in position upon the drawer pull and,
as will, now be clear, a supply of tickets,
- as conventionally 'shown'at 21, may be engaged beneath the" flanges'18 of the maga- .zin'eflto be. carried thereby upon the drawer pull- Accordingly, the drawerbe changedt'he ticket 16 may be displaced to; be and a proper ticket removed from the r'magashould the contents of placed within the magazine I zine .and inserted-beneath the ticket holder 1 of the drawer pull; Furthermore, should it be desiredyto' indicate the character of the articles contained in'the drawer upon one ticket and theppr'ice of such articles upon @another ticket, a proper ticket may, as also shown in Fig; 1, be displayed upon the magazine and a price ticket'display'ed upon the drawer pull. In this connection it will be noted that since the body of the ticket magazine is slightly longer than the drawer pull the lower edges of the tickets 21 will rest upon the upper edges of the side members 13 thereof for supporting the tickets within ,the magazine. However, should any of-the ;ticketsaccidentally drop'down, loss of such tickets willbe prevented "by? the loops 19 of the. arms 'QiE the magazine, which loops are adapted to receive the lower margin of any of the tickets displaced.-
In Fig. i of -he drawings I lhave il'lustrated a vslight modification of the invention wherein the finger receiving portion of 'the drawer pull is indicated at 22 and the {ticket holderef the pull is indicated at 23. ,Formed integrally-with the-finger receiving 2 por ion; is the body 24; of .a, ticket. magazine which upstands from the finger receiving portion of the drawer pull. In other respects the drawer pull and ticket magazine 1. A device of the character described ineluding a drawer pull, means for supporting a ticket upon the drawer pull, and a ticket magazine carried by the drawer pull and adapted to receive a supply of tickets to be selectively engaged with said means.
2. A device of the character de'scribedineluding a drawer pull having afinger receiving portion, and a ticket magazine upstanding from the drawer pull and provided with hooks engaging over the upper edge of the said finger receiving portion of the drawer pull.
3. A device of the character described ineluding a drawer pull having a finger receiving portion, and a ticket magazine upstanding from the drawer pull and including a body, arms extending from the body and rebent to provide loops adapted for engagement between the upper edge of the finger receiving portion of the drawer pull and adjacent face of a drawer for yieldably clamping the body .a ainst the said race of the drawer, and 1100 s carried by the said loops and adapted to edge of the .said finger receiving portion for supporting the magazine upon the drawer pull.
.4. A device of the character described including a drawer pull having a finger ref ceivi-ng portion, and a ticket magazine carried by the drawer pull and including a body, and means carried by the body for engagement between the finger receiving portion and a drawer for supporting the magazine upon the drawer pull.
5. A device of the character described including a drawer pull having a finger receiving portion, and a ticket magazine carried by the drawer pull and including a body, arms extending from the body, and yieldable means carried by said arms to engage between the finger receiving portion and the drawer pull zE-or supporting the magazine upon the drawer pull. a
6. A device of the character described in cluding a drawer pull having a finger receiving portion, side .members for supporting the finger receiving portion, and a ticket magazine upstanding from the drawer 1 0 0 engage over the upper body for holding a ticket thereon supported against downward displacement from the body by the said side members.
7. In a drawer pull, the combination of 5 a finger receiving portion having an extended lower margin, and a (lip formed from said margin and directed upwardly over the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the finger receiving portion to yieldably bear against the front face thereof for engagement over a ticket resting against the finger receiving portion and having its lower margin housed beneath the clip.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
