BED ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 21, 1919.
Application filed April 24, 1918. Serial No. 230,474.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, a citizen of the Unlted States,
MARIA H. P. Daos'rn, residing at Manati, Porto Rico, have invented certain tachments; and I do lowing to be a full,
Bed Atclear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relatesto improvements in bed attachments and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character which can be readily attached to beds of difierent sizes for receiving and storing clothing and other articles therein,
thereby providing a device especially adaptable for use 1n homes of small sizes,
ingxspace is limited. nother object of provision of an adjustable frame removab where the storthis invention is the y secured to the bed and having sliding drawers for receiving and containing various articles.
stored in the device.
A still further object of abed attachment of the the provision of above stated character,
this invention is which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatlvely low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction,
arrangement of parts as Wlll be nation and combihereinaftermore fully described and claimed. For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is ing descriptlon, and lngs, 1n which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective to be had to the followaccompanying drawview of a bed attachment constructed in accordance with my invention,
of a bed,
Fig. 5 is a sectional 5-5 of Fig. 4,
view taken on the line Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 4, illustrating the drawers in position, and
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of the frame.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety an adjustable frame consistin of end members 2, and side members 3. T e side members 3 consist of a pair of sections, one section being provided with an elongated slot 4 to receive a pin or lug 5 carried by the other section whereby the sections are adjustably connected together. The ends of the side members 3 are'extended beyond the ends of the end members 2 and are disposed at right angles to form attaching arms 6. The attaching arms 6 are braced at their upper ends by means of braces 7. Hooks 8 are formed upon the upper ends of the arms 6 and are adapted to engage over the side rails 9 of a bed. The frame 1 has secured thereon a card board casing 10 or a casing constructed of any other material suitable for the purpose and is treated with a suitable chemical or composition which will destroy or kill insects. The casing 10 is constructed from telescopic sections 11 and 12 which sections have their ends open as illustrated at 13. The top walls of the sections 11 and 12 of the casin 10 have the vertical arms 6 extending t erethrough as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, so that the hooks 8 can be readily hooked over the side bars or members 9 of the bed and whereby the casing 10 is supported sufficiently below the side bars or members 9 of the bed so that the spring of the bed may have its usual free movement without coming in contact with the device, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6. The casing 10 at its ends is cut to form the openings 13 and extensions 14 which are bent to overlie the end members 2 of the frame 1, and which extension are adapted to engage drawers 15 to form a dust proof connection between the drawers and the casing. The drawers 15 are constructed of telescopic sections and are adjustably connected together as illustrated at 16 so that the drawers may be adjusted in length according to the width of the frame. The casing 10 is also provided with a par tition 17 to form a pair of compartments to receive the drawers 15. The drawers 15 can be readily inserted and removed from the chambers of the-casing for the purpose of removing or placing articles therein for storage and safe keeping. The drawers 15 are provided with suitable handles 18 whereby they may be readily removed and replaced when desired.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that a device has been provided which can be readily and conveniently applied to single or double beds and which is especially adaptable for storing and keeping-clothes, thereby providing a device especially adaptable for use in homes of comparatively small sizes, giving a considerable storage space for clothing and like articles.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from thespirit and-scope of the invention, as claimed.
' What I claim as new is z- "1.A bed attachment comprising an adjustable casing, means suspending said adjustable casing-from the underside of a bed and drawers slidable in said casing.
2. A bed attachment j ustable frame, means suspending said frame from a bed, an adjusting casing formed upon said frame and drawers slidable in said casfrom the underside of a bed, a telescopiccas ing carried bysaid adjustable frame and having openings in its ends thereof, and adjustable drawers received within the open end of the casing and slidable uponsaid frame.
' In testimony whereof I afiiX my in presence. of two witnesses.
