Be it known that I, HENRY KAPLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the coun-ty of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Automobile-Robe Lock, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to an automobile robe lock, an object of which is to secure the lock in any one of several positions regardless of the thickness of cloth engaged thereby.
Another object of the invention is to provide a lock for securing automobile robes on a rail which will not have any projecting parts likely to tear the robe when applied thereto.
Another object of the invention is to produce a robe lock whichis capable of being made of a metal stamping thereby giving the results with an exceedingly light construction, and at the same time providing a free space within the stamping in which the operating mechanism can be readily assembled.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that there may be modifications thereof.

The lock comprises a pair of jaws 1 and 2 pivotally connected together at 3, which are made of a suitable heavy sheet metal formed up into the shape illustrated, and having their sides overlapping at 1, 5 and 6, 7, said sides being of such dimensions with respect to each other that when the clamp arms are opened to their greatest extent they will still overlap, thereby preventing the cloth from getting caught and cut therebetween.
At the upper end of the arms or jaws the metal is bent over as illustrated at 8 and 9 for t'he purpose of thickening the ends of the jaws to prevent injury to the cloth, as well as to stien that portion of the jaws.
Within the jaw 1 is a U-shaped member 10 forming a bail pivotally connected therewith at 11, said member has a threaded nut secured thereon at 12 `to receive the thumb screw 13, said thumb screw carries a notched disk 14C which has a rounded portion 15 bearing upon the inside of the jaw 2. The thumb screw is swaged out at 16 .to prevent itfrom being turned out of the nut 12, and it has two small lugs formed thereon at 17 and 18 to prevent the notched disk 14 from moving longitudinally when it has once assembled.
The jaw 2 carries a small lock casing 19 operated by means of the key 20, and said key operates a bolt 21, which is adapted to engage any of the notches of the disk 1/1, so that the jaws can be locked in any desired adjustment.
In operation, it is assumed that a blanket or coat is hung over a robe rail, whereupon the clamp is screwed up tightly against the cloth and surrounding the rail. When the clamp is tightly screwed up the key is turned, and since the locking disk 14 is rigidly connected to the bolt 13, the clamp cannot be removed nor can the garments be taken od' the rail without the key.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A robe lock consisting of a clamp, having pivoted jaws, a thumb screw passing through one of said jaws, a notched disk carried by said thumb screw to prevent it from moving longitudinally with respect to said jaw, a nut into which said thumb screw passes pivotally supported with respect to the other jaw, and a key operated lock engaging the notched disk for securing the thumb screw in any given adjustment.
2. A robe lock comprising a pair of pivoted jaws, a thumb screw passing through one of said jaws, a notched disk carried thereby to prevent the thumb screw from moving longitudinally with respect to the jaws supportin it, a threaded nut into which the thum screw passes, and a support for said threaded nut pivotally connected to the other jaw whereby the jaws may be moved into any desired adjustment, and a key operated lock adapted to copen ate with the notched disk for securing the thumb screw in any given adjustment.
3. A. robe look comprising a pair of pivotally connected metal jaws having overlapping cheek pieces, a pivoted bail 'having a threaded nut carried by one of said jaws between the cheek pieces, a screw movabiy connected with the other jaw and threaded into the nut carried by the bail for securing the jaws in any given adjustment, and means` carried by one ojt the jaws to lock said screw in any given adjustment.
