Description

I 8. DE BELLA, 1n. TRAVELING MUSIC SHEET AND ATTACHMENT.
- APPLICATION FILED SEPT-15.191

.TBeY I 1K I E AND ATTACHMENT- -Talld0h0m it-mayconcern Be it known that I, S LVATORE DE BELLA,
J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Traveling Music-Sheets andAttachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to traveling music sheets, and the main object of the same is the provision of an end piece for traveling music sheets, which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture, and
which can be readily applied to the music sheets to replace the old or damaged ends so that the music sheet, instead of being thrown away, as is customary, may be renewed for service as before.
With this object and others in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and. shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material. part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a conventional roller and travehng music sheet, showing in particular my attachment applied to the end of the music sheet.
F ig. 2 is a side elevation showing my attachment applied to the end of the traveling music sheet.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one form of my attachment.
Fig. 4: is a plan view of another form of my attachment.
Ends of the traveling music sheets used in pianolas, player-pianos and like instru ments, employing a tracker board, are frequently torn off entirely or damaged to such an extent that the music sheets are rendered worthless. This is particularly true of the music sheets made of the poorer qualities of paper. It is obvious, therefore, that there is a need for end pieces adapted readily to be attached to the music sheets so as to replace the old ends, thereby bringing the sheets into condition to be used again, instead of throwing themaway as useless.
With more particular reference to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a conventional music sheet adapted to wind and unwind upon the usual roller as 11.
Fig. 3- shows the preferred form of my" like.
Specification G atemal n. Pge t Fe 18, 1919, Ap plication file l septe mber Serial No.191,647.
-thin,-yet strong pliable paper, but'which,
obviously, may be made of other suitable materials such as leather, cloth and the From a single piece of material are cut the identical body plates 12, having converging sides 13 and 14 terminating in the integral neck 15, which is bent upon itself transversely intermediate its length to provide a continuous loop or eye 16 for the reception of a clip or fastening device 17.
The confrontingfaces of the body plates 12 including the integral neck 15, thus formed, are glued or otherwise rigidly Secured together, except the portions adjacent the horizontal edges 20, which portions, be ing left unattached, will be hereinafter referred to as the tab elements 21.
The confronting faces of these tab elements 21 are coated with any suitable adhesive substance of the character used on postage stamps, letter flaps and the like, and which, upon being moistened, will enable the elements 21 to be rigidly connected to the end of the music sheet, one element upon each side thereof, as best illustrated in Fig. 2. As a means of strengthening the neck 15 as well as the adjacent portions of the body plates 12, against tearing under twists or strains, I prefer to apply thereto a reinforcing plate as 22.
In order to apply this form of end attachment to the end of the music sheet, it will be obvious that the end of the latter including the usual fastening clip carried thereby, must first be removed by cutting it off with a pair of shears or other suitable instrument. The attachment should be applied with the opposite edges '18 and 19 in exact parallelism with the corresponding edges of the music sheet, in such manner that the neck 15 falls intermediate the width eye 26 for the reception of the clip 17, as illustrated in Fig. 4, the construction in all other respects being precisely the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is As an article of manufacture, an end attachment for traveling music sheets comprising a body portion of thin material, the upper portion of said body being of the same Width as the normal untapered width of the music sheet and formed with parallel sides corresponding with the parallel sides of the music sheet, and the lower portion thereof being formed with converging sides terminating in a neck element, means combined with the neck element for connecting the same with a roller, a pair of confronting tab elements projecting from the upper body portion and corresponding in width thereto, said tab elements being adapted to cooperate for the engagement therebetween of an edge of the music sheet at its normal width, and substance coated upon the confronting faces of said tab elements adapted to cause the same to rigidly adhere to the edge engaged therebetween, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
