To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CLYDE Huns'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tupelo, in the county of Jackson, State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention is an improvement in tobacco pipes and has particular reference to the bowl construction therefor.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved pipe in which the bowl has a number of magazines formed therein which may be successively brought into operative relation with the stem of the pipe whereby the user may smoke the same several times without refilling.

Another object is to provide an improved mounting for the bowl of the pipe whereby the same may be rotated to proper position to permit of the use of the several magazines and which is effectively held in its adjusted positions.

The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters indicate similar parts7 the numeral 10 designates the stem of the pipe which may be of any formation and made of any suitable material and which is provided with the joint 11 so that the stem may be removed whenever desired. The outer end of the stem is enlarged to provide the substantially circular base 12 provided .in the upper surface thereof with an openlng 13 which communicates with the smoke passage 14 in the stem 10 and surrounding said opening 13 is the packing 15 the purpose of which will presently appear. rllhe bottom of the base l2 has detachably mounted therein a cup or drain device 16 which is in communication with, the smoke passage 14 whereby the nicotin will drain therefrom into the cup and thus be prevented from entering the smokers mouth and said cup may be removed at intervals to empty the same after which it may be replaced.

The bowl 17 of the pipe has depending from the bottom thereof a pivot pin 18 engageable in an opening 19 formed in the center of the base 12 whereby the bowl will be rotatably mounted upon the base to different adjusted positions. The bowl is preferably provided therein with a plurality of magazines 20 adapted to contain tobacco and the bottom of each magazine is provided with a restricted opening 21 extending through said bottom and adapted for communication with the opening 13 in the base whereby the smoke from the magazine may enter the stem of the pipe. Each of the openings 21 is 'also surrounded by the packing 22 which engages the packing 15 when the openings 13 and 21 are in registration and this packing is designed for the purpose of preventing the escape of smoke between the base and the bottom of the bowl when the pipe is being used. A pair of cover plates 23 provided with perforations 24- thereon are pivoted at 25 to the top of the bowl 17 and each of said plates is designed to be swung into position directly over the upper ends of the two adjacent magazines whereby to cover the same whenever desired.

The forward end of the base 12 at a point diametrically opposite that where the stem 10 joins said base is provided with a bracket 26 which extends upwardly and has secured thereto adjacent its upper end a retaining ring 27 which surrounds the bowl 17 in spaced relation thereto when the same is in position upon the base. The upper end of the bracket 26 is provided with an extension 28 which overhangs the top of the bowl 17 and carried by the free end of said extension is a coil spring 29 the lower end of which is engagement with the top of the bowl 17 and exerts a downward pressure thereupon whereby to retain the same in its proper adjusted positions upon the base so that the openings 13 and 21 will be maintained in registration and the unobstructed iow of smoke from the diierent lmagazines magazines is in registration with the opening 13 in the base and the packings 15 and 22 are in engagement. The tobacco in said magazine may then be lighted and the pipe smoked in the usual manner. The other' magazines of tobacco may then be successively smoked by rotating the bowl so that the openings will be properly registered and in this manner it will be apparent that the pipe may be smoked severaltimes without refilling the same. It will also be obvious that the bowl 17 will be constantly maintained in its proper adjusted positions by the pressure exerted upon the top thereof by the coil spring 29.

What is claimed is 1. A tobacco pipe of the class described comprising a stem, a base formed at one end thereof, a bowl rotatably supported upon said base and having a. plurality of magazines therein each of which is adapted for communication with the smoke passage in the stem, a bracket carried by said base resilient means supported by said bracket and engaging said bowl for maintaining the same in adjusted positions, and a retaining ring also supported by said bracket and surrounding said bowl in spaced relation.

2. A tobacco pipe of the class described comprising a stem, a base formed at one end thereof, a bowl rotatably supported upon said base and having a plurality of magazines therein each of which is adapted for communication with the smoke passage in the stem, a bracket carried by said base, an extension projecting from said bracket and overhanging said bowl, a coil spring having one end secured to the free end of said eX- tension and its other end bearing upon the y top of said bowl whereby to exert a down-l L ward pressure thereon and retain the same in its different` adjusted positions, and a retaining ring also carried by said bracket and surrounding said bowl.
