SANITARY COMIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1919.
Application filed August 3, 1918. Serial No. 248,111.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. KUN- KLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Combs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sanitary combs, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a comb with detachable teeth whereby the same may be easily cleaned, and broken teeth replaced.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efcient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of one end of the comb.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the teeth.
Fig. 4 is an end view.
As shown in the drawings the comb consists of a hollow member l of substantially rectangular shape and having a slot 2 in its bottom. One end of the member is open to permit the entrance of the individual teeth and the upper and lower edges of this open end are bent over to form guide-ways 3 to receive the slide 4, which closes said end to hold the teeth within the member. Said slide is provided with a finger engaging projection 4c. As shown each tooth is made separate from the others and it consists of a base part 5 having a groove 6 on each side thereof which are to engage with the bottom of the hollow member on each side of the slot 2. Thus it will be seen that the base 5 will lie within the hollow member with the grooves engaging the bottom thereof and the point 7 projecting therefrom. The base parts 5 of the teeth are made thicker than the points so that said points will be separated from each other when the teeth are assembled in the body.
It will thus be seen that the teeth may be easily removed so that the comb may be thoroughly cleaned and any broken teeth re placed.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a hollow rectangular member having a slot in its bottom andV one end open, said open end having guide-ways thereon, a lurality of teeth each having its base thickened and provided withy grooves on each side thereof, said grooves engaging with the bottom on each side of the slot therein and a slide engaging with the guide-ways for holding the teeth in the member.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signa-ture.
CLARENCE ALOYIOUS KUNKLER.
