UNITED STATES PATENT onnrcn;
CHARLES WAGNER, or ennnrwoon, NEW masts, AND ausrrsr Homer, on NEW YORK, nun CASSIMIR J. VIEAIL 0FrltooKnvlmfnnwroax;
CONTAINER. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES WAGNER,
AUGUST HORMEL, and CAssrMm J. VIEAU,
citizens of the United States, residing at Grantwood, N. J., county of Bergen, State of New Jersey; New York city, county and State of New York, and Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Containers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
Our invention relates to improvements in collapsible containers and has particular reference to a flexible form of container adapted to be collapsed or folded into a compact form thus adapting it for being conveniently carried in a pocket, grip or tool case rendering it convenient for immediate use when desired, such device being especially useful for military or camping purposes or on board yacht and for similar purposes.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 illustrates in perspective partly broken away, an application of our invention when the same is opened out ready for use, and Fig. 2 illustrates the same in closed v1d1ng adjustablllty in the sizeof the conor compact and folded position.
3 indicates a suitable piece of fabric, rubber composition or other suitable sheet of material. such as rubberized canvas which may be provided with eyelets such as 4 adjacent the edge or periphery 5 of the same. 6 indicates suitable pivotally connected bars which may be separated by washers such as 7 to prevent the fabric from becoming pinched therein. The tops of the alternate bars 6' it will be observed preferably extend beyond in hook-like formation to receive the eyelets of the fabric as shown when the bars are opened out in the form shown in Fig. 1, these bars 66 forming a lazy-tongs structure bellied outwardly as shown.
Two of the diametrical opposite bars it will be observed terminate in ring or hooklike ends 8 to receive the S-shaped terminals 9 of the coiled handle 10, the side 11 terminating in the loop 12 which is free to slide through the handle upon the side 13 thus allowing the handle to fold compactly and telescopically within the container when collapsed as shown in Fig. 2.
Applicationfiled Pecernbcr28 1917. Seria1No. 209,232.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 1919.
Of course if the container is to be opened out so as to provide awider and shallower container, instead of threading the ends of the bars 6 through the eyelets as shown, two of the eyelets closer together may be thread thereon or a single eyelet may be passed over the ends thus allowing for a greater diameter at the top of the container and a greater expansion of the support frame work 6-6.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made inthe construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spiritof the invention as claimed.
We claim 1. A contamer comprising a clrcular lazytongs support and a flexible receptacle having eyelets adjacent the periphery thereof,
the alternate bars of said lazy-tongs projecting slightly above the adjacent bars thereof, said eyelets of greater number than said alternate bars and adapted to be engagedby the ends of said projecting bars for suspending said receptacle withinsaid lazy-tongs, whereby the projecting end of each of said alternate bars maybe engaged by one or more of said eyelets, thereby protaine j 2. A container comprising a circular lazytongs support and a flexible receptacle having eyelets adjacent the periphery thereof, the alternate bars of said lazy-tongs projecting slightly abovethe adjacent bars thereof, said eyelets of greater number than said alternate bars and adapted to be engaged by the ends of said projecting bars for suspending said receptacle within said lazytongs, said projecting ends of said alternate bars provided with engaging means for said eyelets, whereby the projecting end of each of said alternate bars may be engaged by one or more of said eyelets, thereby providing adjustabilityin the size of the container.
3. A container comprising a circular lazytongs support and a flexible receptacle having eyelets adjacent the periphery thereof, the alternate bars of said lazy-tongs projecting slightly above the adjacent bars thereof, said eyelets of greater number than said alternate bars and adapted to be engaged by the ends of said projecting bars for suspending said receptacle within said lazytongs; whereby the projecting end of each 0111' signatures in the presence of two witof said alternate bars may be engaged by nesses.
one or moreofseid eyelets, thereby provid- CHARLES \VAGNER. ing adjnstaloility in the size of the container, AUGUST HORMEL. said lazy-tongs bellied outwardly providing CASSIMIR J. VIEAU. an enlarged cavity when collapsed for re- Witnesses: taining said folded container. ETHEL GARDNER,
In testimony whereof, we hereunto affix THOMAS A. HiLL.
