To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN M. MYERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Yonkers, county of WVestchestejr, and

State of New York, (whose post-oilice address is No. 646 Park avenue, Yonkers, New York,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adding-Machine Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.

My invention relates to improvements in adding machinecabinets and its object is to provide a simple and convenienttable or desk for supportingadding machinesor-the like in position convenientfor the operator and to provide parts of the device in such relation to the operator and the machine that the work may be handled with greater facility than is possible With such'devices as have been available heretofore.

These and other-objects will appear in the following specification in which I will specifically describe the invention, the'novel features of which will be set forth in appended claims.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet made according to and embodying this invention.

10 designates a table top supported on a suitable. frame which in this case comprises a back .11, sides 12 and'legs 13. The front edge of this table top is depressed at intervals tofonngrece'sses shown; at 14, back of which are openings 15 and 'at the sides of which are the openings 16 or the narrower? openings :16 at the ends. 17 designates t ansrem cleats at the sides of the openings 16 and 16 The rear edges of all of these openings are in substantially the same line. 7

Drawer sections 20 fit over the cleats. These extend from the front of the table top back to the rear edges of the openings 16 leaving a portion 18 of the table top clear between the rear of the drawer'sections and the rear edge of the table top. Over the drawer sections are the covers 21 the rear portions of which form shelf extensions 22.

These covers are spaced above the table top and are parallel with it. They are so shaped and proportioned that their front edges are directly above the front edge of the table top, their rear edges above the forward part of the space 18, their adjacent sides spaced apart a distance equal to the width of the recesses 14 and their shelf extensions spaced apart a distance butslightly greater than the Width of an adding machine 30.

The adding machines are affixed to the table top between the shelf extensions 22 with their motors 31 extending down through the openings 15 and with their platens 32 and rolls 33, which move transversely of the machine, over the space 18.

This arrangement is such-thatthe operators may be seated comfortably in front of the machines, the recesses '14 permitting them to sit near the key board and with the covers 21 and shelf extensions 22 in the most convenient positions for holding the papers or books being used by the operators. It is customary for the operators to place the papers to be copied, such for. example as checks, on the covers and shelf extensions at the left-hand sides of the machines and to move them .over to the right-hand sides as soon as they are copied or tabulated. Incidentally the space between the table top and the covers is utilized to contain sliding drawers which are convenient receptacles for papers not being used. The transversely movable parts of the machines have ample room for their movement but the covers with their shelf extensions are brought up close to the operator and to the stationary parts of the machines.

The cabinet is shown as constructed for a plurality of machines but of course is made for a single machine if desired in which case it embodies just the same principles.

Variations in design and construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. The cabinets may be made of wood or steel or of any desired material and I intend no limitations other than those imposed by the following claims.

What I claim is:

-1. An adding machine cabinet comprising a table top arranged to support an adding machine, said table top having an unobstructed portion extending across the back of the machine and other portions separated by at least the width of the machine extending forwardly from the machine, and covers spaced above said table top above the forwardly extending portions thereof with their rear edges situated in front of the transversely movable parts of the machine,-

said covers having shelf extensions extending nearly the sides of the stationary part of the maohlne.

2. An adding machine cabinet comprising a table top arranged to support a plurality of adding machines at spaced intervals, said table top having an unobstructed portion extending throughout its length back of the machines, and other portions separated equal distances from the sides of the machines extending forwardly from the machines and covers spaced above said table top above the forwardly extending portions thereof with their rear edges siti ted in front of the transversely movable parts of the machine, said covers having shelf-extensions extending nearly to the sides of the stationary parts of the machine.
