CHARLES H. GOWAN, JR, 0]? STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Application filed April 7, 1919. Serial No. 288,115.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. Comm, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Stonington, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ticket- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ticket vending devices and the principal object of the invention is to provide a case for holding a roll of ticket scrip so that the same may rotate therein with means for withdrawing the tickets from the case when desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for so supporting the roll that the same is frictionally held against rotation by the weight of the roll.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of the case with the door closed and the tickets projecting from the slot therein;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section;
Fig. 4 is an end view of the base and uprights with the rolls of the scrip removed.
In these views 1 indicates the case which is preferably of rectangular form and may be made of metal or other suitable material. One side of the case is open and this open side is adapted. to be closed by a door 2 hinged to the case and provided with a suitable lock. The case is also provided with openings through which screws may pass to secure the case to a stationary support. The case is also provided with a handle 3. A base 4 formed of a block of wood or the like is adapted to rest in the bottom of the case and this base supports the uprights 5 which are of channel form, as shown. The drawing shows three of these uprights so as to support two rolls of scrip, but it will, of
course, be understood that I may make the device of any desired size to support any number of rolls. The middle upright is of I-shape in cross section so as to provide aguide on each side thereof. The flanges at the upper ends of the uprights are cut away as at 6 to permit the entrance and withdrawal of the shafts 7 to and from the channels. These shafts are of cylindrical form, as shown, and of sufiicient length to loosely fit between two of the uprights. These shafts are placed through the rolls of scrip and then the rolls and shafts are placed between the uprights with the weight of the arts resting on the base. Thus the weight of the roll and shaft acts as a brake to prevent the ticket scrip from unwinding from the roll until forcibly pulled therefrom. Guide loops 8 are secured at the front end of the base through which the scrip passes on its way to the slot 9 formed in the bottom of the door. These loops are formed from a single strip of metal bent to form two loops.
The rolls may be placed between the uprights either while the base is within the case or the base may be withdrawn to receive the rolls and then placed in the case. The ends of the scrip are then passed through the guide loops and through the slot in the door after which the door may be locked and the wall of the slot will then act as a straight edge to facilitate the detachment of the tickets from the scrip.
It is thought from the foregoin description that the advantages and nove features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall with-- in the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a case, a door therefor having a slot therein, a removable base in said case, uprights secured to said base, said uprights being of channel form to provide guideways, a shaft having its ends engaging said guideways to support a roll of scrip and a guide for the end of the scrip located on the end of the base adjacent the slot in the door.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES H. COWAN, JR.
