Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in "Building Constructions, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to what may be termed building material for walls, floors, ceilings andthe like, and'has for its object the provision of an improved trussed construction which will be adapted to carry heavy loads and be durable, of economical structure, fireproof etc. My present; invention relates to modificationsof the gen eral invention disclose'din my Patent, No. 1,277,622, dated September 3, 1918, for trussed-sheet building material.
The patent referred to describes a 0011- struction embodying-a pair of sheets, preferably of steel, which constitute the outer chord members ofthe trussed construction and-whichare rigidly connected together at certain intervals byintermediateweb members composed ot integral pro ections or de pressionsformedon one or bothsheets and separated from each other laterally and longitudina'lly, these projections or depressions being of a depth many times the thickness of the sheet, so as-t0 produce atr'ussing effect.
My present invention relates to'a modification of the above, in which a' layer of concrete or other hard setting plastic material is formed with integralprojections extending from one surface thereof, which projections are separated from each other'laterally and longitudinally and are similar in construction' and effect to the deep integral depressionsprovided onone or both of the metal sheets "described in my: patent referred to above. This molded'member of plastic material may, if desired, be provided with a reinforcing-member, such as a sheet of wire mesh, which may, if desired, extend" down into the integral projections of the mold- Securingdevices are embedded in the molded member and extend out throughthe surface on which the integral projections are formed, these securing devices preferably taking the form of bolts extending downwardly through the projections of the concrete member. In order that a clearer understanding of my invention maybe had, attention'is' hereby' called to the accompanying. drawings forming part of this application and-illustrating certain embodiments of my inven tion.

Reterring' first to Fig. 1, one ofthe chord members ofthe truss" comprises the sheet 1, preferably of pressed steel'or'other suitable metal. the sheet 1 is illustrated as plane, sheets 1 and 1 shown in Figs. 1 and-2 being preferably formed of pressed steelor'othersuit able metal.
The member 3 comprises a layer of hard ness of'the sheet 1*or 1 and spia'ced apart laterally and longitudinally, preferably in staggered relation. These integral depressions may be of any desired shape, but are preferably of a frusto-conical shape. The
plastic material member 3 may, if desired, be reinforced preferably by a'sheet of Wire mesh 5 or the like, embedded in the plastic material and extending throughout the same. If desired, this reinforcing member 5 may be so positioned in the mold when member 3 is formed as to extend into the projections 4:,
' as is indicated at 6 in Fig. 1. The plastic material 3 is also. provided withsecurin devices, such as bolt 7 which are embedded therein and extend out through the projections 1. These securing devices 7 may be.
anchored to the reinforcing member 5 as by having the heads 8 of the securing devices engage the member 0. Then the securing devices 7 extend downwardly through projections 4, as illustrated, they'serve as additional reinforcing means for the projections.
The structure may be completed by securing the metal sheet 1 directly to the securing devices 7, as, for example, by extending bolts 7 through openings in the sheet 1 and screwing up the nuts of the bolts, as is indicated in Fig. 1. Or when a sheet 1 is used for the lower chord member having integral depressions, such as are indicated at 2 in Fig. 2, the bolts may extend through openings'in the apices or end portions of the depressions 2 and may be secured in place by screwing up the nuts. 7
What I claim is: 1. In a trussed structure adapted to withstand heavy loads or stresses, the combina-.
tion of a rigid metalsheet constituting one chord member of the truss, a layer ofplastic material formed with lntegral pro ections of adepth many times the thickness of said sheet, extending from one surface'of said layer and spaced apart laterally and longitudlnally, and securing devices embedded in said material and extending through the "aplces of said pro ections, sa1d sheet being 5 chord member of the truss, a layer of plastic material formed with integral projections of a depth many times the thickness of said sheet, extending from one surface of said layer and spaced apart laterally and long1- tudinally, and securing devices embedded in said material and extending therefrom, and secured rigidly to said sheet to hold the same directly in engagement with the apices of said projections the body of said plastic I material constituting the opposite chord member of the truss and the integral projections constituting web members of the truss. r
3. In a trussed structure adapted to withstand heavy loads or stresses, the combination of a rigid metalsheet, constituting one chord member of the truss, a layer of plastic material formed with integral projectionsof a depth many times the thickness of said sheet, extending from one surface of said tudinally, reinforcing material embedded in and extending through sa1d layer, an'd bolts embedded in sa1d .material and extending through the apiees of said projections and" through said sheet, and secured to said sheet to hold the latter directly against said apices' the body of saidplastic material constituting the opposite chord member ofthe truss and.
