APPLICATION FILED OCT- 31, I918.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
Application filed, October 31, 1918. Serial No. 260,435.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOSHUA B. C'oLvIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Union-Garments, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to improvements in union garments and has for its object to provide improved means to facilitate the withdrawal of the shoulder portion of the garment from the shoulders of the wearer and thereby materially aid in the removal of the garment from the body.
Union garments,to be comfortable and sightly, should fit close up in the crotch, but when so fitted, considerable trouble is experienced in drawing the garment from the shoulders because little or no upward movement from the crotch can take place to ease the garment at the shoulder during removal.
This difficulty in union garments is more pronounced in overall garments which are put on over the clothing, and considerable trouble is experienced in this latter class of garment to peel the same from the shoulders of the wearer.
My invention therefore has for its ob] ect to provide an improved device for union garments that will very materially'facllitate the casting of the garment from the shoulders and thereby enable the garment to be better fitting from neck to crotch and thus avoid a surplus of material in the front that becomes very much in the way of a mechanic while at work.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1, shows a union garment provided with my improved device, the latter being shown in broken lines.
Fig. 2, illustrates the figure of a man clothed in a union garment and utilizing the improved device that is provided thereon for peeling the same from the shoulders, and
Fig. 3, shows a crosssectional detail through the arm-hole of the garment with the improved device attached to the armhole seam, the section being taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the darts.
The detailed construction of the arment is entirely immaterial to the invention, but it is essential that the garment be of the union-suit type, because the trouble the in- Vention remedies is occasioned by the fact that the body portion of the garment cannot be raised vertically or drawn up at the shoulders on account of the close fit of the crotch.
The garment shown in the drawing is of the overall type and has a body portion 4; leg portions 5; a crotch 6, and a front flap 7 extending from the neck down to the crotch.
In this instance the garment also has a collar 8, and long sleeves 9,-the sleeves being stitched to the body by arm -hole seams l0.
On the interior of the garment, and at or adjacent to the arm-holes, I secure one end 11, of a tape or strap 12. By preference, this tape or strap-end 11, is stitched to the arm-hole seam 10, and for best results, its point of attachment should be well up and nearer the shoulder seam 13, of the garment than toward the under side of the arm-hole.
The free ends 14, of these straps or tapes hang pendantly at the inner front side of the body of the garment, where they can be readily grasped, upon opening the flap 7, of the garment.
When the garment is on the person the tapes or straps are allowed to hang free between the persons body and the inner front side of the garment body, and they are concealed from view and entirely out of the way while the garment is worn.
When, however, it is desired to remove the garment the front flap 7, is opened from neck-to crotch and the free end 14, of one tape or strap'is grasped by one hand while the free end 14, of the other tape or strap is grasped by the other hand of the person. By then drawing the two tapes laterally in opposite directions and substantially in a horizontal plane, the garment will be quickly rolled. back from the center front flaps and peeled simultaneously from both shoulders substantially as illustrated in Fig. 2, of the drawing. The operation is an exceedingly by the aid of the tape and thereby facilitate part having attached thereto an end of a 10 V the removal from the other shoulder in the tape the attachment of the tape-ends being usual-Way.
