HEADAGHE-BANDAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
Application filed November 29, 1918. Serial No. 264,529.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE C. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Covington, in the county of Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Headache-Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
In certain kinds of headaches, to-relieve which is the object of my invention, the pain is centered at various points of the forehead or temples, and sometimes the center of pain is at a convex portion of the head and at other times at a concave point.
Those who are afllicte'd with this kind of a headache, find that pressure applied to the point of pain gives relief, and that thls re- Figure l, is a perspective view of a head ache band embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is a detail perspective view of the front portion of my band.
Fig. 3, is a perspective view of one of the medicinal disks forming a feature of my invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional 14: of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5, is a perspective view of a person wearing one of my headache bands.
My device comprises a circular band A, of a circumference somewhat less than the circumference of the head of the patient. Band A, comprises a front portion a, in which is formed a series of pockets at, which are located side by side, are open at the top and are of a size to receive one of the medicinal disks B. Portion a, is of a length equal to the width of the patients forehead and temples. Upon each side of the portion a elastic webbing DD is inserted.
Disks B, are formed from parafiin and are view taken upon line impregnated with a medicament. In use the disk B, is placed in the one of the pockets at, which registers with the point of pain, When the band is adjusted upon the head. The band is then placed upon the head so that the portion a, contacts with the forehead and temples, and the pocket a, holding the disk, contacts with the point of pain. The point of pain will vary in headaches according to the idiosyncrasies of the patient. With some the position of the point of pain is immediately over one eye, or in the center of the forehead, in others it may be in one or the other temple or in both of the temples. If there be more than one point of pain, more than one pocket receives a disk. The elastic band or bands fits firmly around the head and presses the disk against the point of pain. i If this point of pain is located at a convex portion of the head, the paraflin disk, because of the pressure of the band, readily conforms thereto. Likewise if the point of pain is located in a concavity the elastic of the band causes the disk to conform to the concavity.
In some cases the patients headache is located at the base of the skull. In this case the band can be reversed from the position shown in Fig. 5, so that the medicament will be located over the point of pain.
What I claim is A headache bandage comprising a fibrous non-elastic section comprising an outer strip and an inner strip which is of greater length than the outer strip and is secured thereto I by a line of stitching along one edge and aseries of lines of stitches forming a plurality of pockets open upon one side, and an elastic section connected at its respective ends to the ends of the non-elastic section and a plurality of medicine disks or wafers adapted to be frictionally held in said pockets and to be removed therefrom without the removal of any extraneous fastening means.
In testimony whereof, I have hereuntosubscribed my name this 22nd day of November, 1918.
ALICE o. MORRIS.
