Be. it known that we, LOUIS SCHIEK and 'ILLLxu' SI'IIIEK, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buckets,

This invention relates to buckets and more particularly to that -type of metal bucket which is especially serviceable for scrubbing purposes.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a bucket of this type in which the bottom is so constructed that a base normally forming a part of the bucket may be quickly disconnected from the bucket bottom when the occasion requires and when connected therewith will enable the bucket to be slid easily and noiselessly, from polnt to point, over a supporting surface without injury to the bucket bottom.

Another object of the invention is to provide a bucket in which the bucket bottom has permanently connected therewith a band, which not only enables the base to be connected with the bucket bottom but when the bucket is disconnected from the base spaces the bucket bottom from a support upon which the bucket may be placed, thus serving'as a protecting flange for the bottom of thel bucket.

With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, Which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The preferred embodiment of the invenv tion has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations, and modifications, within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of a bucket constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the same mounted upon the bucket base.

Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the bucket, the latch rods and actuating mechanism associated therewith being shown in extended position in full lines, and in retracted posi tion in dotted lines.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the letter A designates a metal bucket of thetype connnonly used by char-women, and the like, for scrubbing purposes, said bucket havin pern'lanently connected with the bottom t ereof a band-6 extending below the bucket bottom and by means of which the bucket is supported upon a base 7.

The band 6 which is formed from any suitable material is offset adjacent one edge to form an annular and flanged shoulder 8 forming a seat upon which rests the bead 9 at the bottom of the bucket and with which the band 6 is connected in any suitable manner, such as by solder, or the like. The band 6 is flared outwardly below the flanged shoulder 8 and terminates in a rolled rim 10 for engagement with latch rods hereinafter described.

The base 7 includes a band 11 having a reduced portion 12 to extend within the band 6 and forming an annular shoulder 13 upon which the rolled rim 10 of the band 6 is adapted to rest, said band having connected therewith the outer ends of the spokes 14, the inner ends of which are connected with a centrally arranged hub 15, said band having formed thereon lugs 16 arranged between the spokes 1-1 and having adjustably mounted therein the Shanks of castenwheels 17 to permit the base and bucket when mounted thereon to be slid from point to point over a supporting surface.

Underlying the spokes liJr are latch rods 18, the outer ends of which pass through keeper openings 19 in the reduced portion of the band 11 and extend beyond the same to normally engage the rolled rim 10 of the band 6, while the inner ends of the rods are mounted to turn in openings 20 in the corners of a latch rod actuating plate 21 mounted to turn on the shank 22 of a screw 23 passing through the hub 15 and retained therein by a nut 24, arranged within a recess 25 in the hub 15.

A coiled contractile spring 26 having connection with the band 11 and an ear 27 on .the latch rod actuating plate 21 normally serves to hold the locking ends of the latch rods extended beyond the band 11 and in po sition to engage the rim 10 on the band 6,

When the bucket has been disconnected from the base 7, the band 6 serves to space the bucket bottom from a support upon which the bucket is placed, thus protectin the bottom of the bucket from injury.

Havlng thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

1. A bucket having a band secured to and extendingbelow the bottom thereof, a bead on said band, a Wheeled base extending Within said band and engaging said bead, and spring controlled latch rods having locking 'ends extending beyond said base and engaging said bead.

2. Amcket having a flanged and shouldered bead secured to the bottom thereof and extending below the same, a'bead on Said band, a Wheeled base having a rim extending within said band and engaging said bead, spring controlled latch rods mounted to slide in said rim and having locking ends normally engaging said bead, and means for disengaging the ends vof said latch rods from said bead.

3. A bucket having a band fixed to the bottom thereof, a bead on said band, a base having a shouldered rim extending Within said band and engaging said bead, caster- Wheels adjustably connected with said rim, a latch rod actuating plate mounted to turn on said base, latch rods Ooperatively connected with said plate and having ends extending beyond said rim to engage said bead, and'means-connected with said plate and rim for normally holding said rods in engagement with said bead.
