IMPROVEMENT IN PAINTERS' STRIPING IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,163,6lated November 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DANIEL LYDON and CHARLES HALSEY, of San Francisco city and State of California, have invented an Improved Painters Striping Implement; and we do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use our said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.
Our invention relates to a tool or implement for striping freshly-painted surfaces; and it consists principally of a small wheel or roll er, which has a milled edge, and a small box, which is properly placed to receive the paint which is taken up by the wheel.
In order to more fully illustrate and explain our invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure -1 is a side view of the device, and Fig. 2 is an end view.
A is a handle of any suitable kind, but we prefer to use a hollow meta-1' handle. Into one end of this handle a metal end piece, I), is secured, and this end piece is so constructed that a portion of it will stand at an angle to the handle, as shown. The angular part is then divided into two parts, and a small wheel,
0, is placed between them so as to revolve upon a small shaft which passes through its center bearing in the metal on each side. The edgeor face of this wheel is milled. Directlyabove the wheel is a small metal box or wiper, 01, the under side of which is slotted angularly, so that the upper portion or rim of the wheel will pass inside of the slot as it revolves, or a friction-wheel can be used for this purpose.
For striping, the tool is taken in the hand after afresh coat of paint has been put on and the wheel rolled over the painted surface. The milled rim of the wheel will take up the fresh paint and deposit it in the box (I as it passes through the slot.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-- The striping implement for painters use, consisting of the handle A, angular end piece 1), wheel 0, with its milled rim, and the box or slotted wiper d, all constructed and arranged substantially as above described.
In witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals.
