CHESTER A. VAN DEMARK; OF KINGSTON, NEW YORK.
MATTRESS-EOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1920.
Application filed September 25, 1919. Serial No. 325,356.
a mattress holder arranged to be attached to an iron trame bed spring.
The primary object oli' this invention is to provide conventionally constructed metal frame bed springs with readily attachable and detachable members of the spring trame, with ease, accuracy and despatch, in a manner insuring the mattress being held in proper position on the springs, and thereby insuring the mattress holding its shape.
vWith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter 'fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
in the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope ot the claim may be resorted to when desired.
ln the drawing:
Figure l shows a view partly in perspective ot a bed equipped with my invention.
Fig. '.2 is a side view ot' bed springs having one of my holders attached thereto.
Fig. 3 is a modification.
l? ig. 4 shows a detail of the attachment disclosing one of the brackets in perspective.
My invention is a bed spring mattress protector and will keep the mattress in place at lz-oth head and l'oot of the bed and will also keep the mattress from stretching out of shape as it does on beds without this protector, as well as holding the mattress against casual displacement.
'.Tn carrying out the object of my invention i employ a panel S, or' wood, or other suitable material arranged to be held parallel to the ends of the spring frame, and above the same with its lower edge resting on said trame, in the manner shown in Figs. l and 9, ot the drawings.
Holding the panel in position at each end, are two metal brackets each including a flat securing end G, from which extends at a right angle, a U-shaped spring member 5, troni which is continued at a right angle in a direction opposite to the end 6, the holding end T. having suitable openings to hold the screws S) by means oi" which the panel is held to the brackets.
The securing ends 6 have openings 1U through which pass suitable bolts l0 by means of which the brackets are held to the frame bar ln certain cases I find that the horizontal vFlange 3 ot the spring holding frame head l, is ot such a size that the U-shaped portion olE the brackets can be sprung on the horizontal flange 3 of the frame bars as shown in Fig. 3. There this arrangement is possible no bolts are necessary to hold the bracket in position.
ln the drawing l have shown at l, the usual socket to receive the tubular members 2, while shown as secured to the bar 3 is the spring lie, thc mattress ll, being clearly indicated.
Fig. l, shows how the bed spring ond looks when the protector is on the spring. It is not clumsy or does not bother one when sleeping. It does not tear the sheets and is very easy to put on or take oli" any time. lt is made to tit any kind of spring that has an iron Jframe around it, or any size spring.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings` the operation and advantages of my invention will readily be understood.
l have entered into a somewhat detailed description ol the present and preferred embodiment ot' my invention in order to impart a denite understanding ot the same. l do not desire, however', to be understood as restricting myself to the exact construction shown and described, as various changes or modifications may be made in the form, size, and minor details of construction without departing from the principle or sacricing any ot the advantages of this invention.
Ha ving thus described my invention, what l claim, an d desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In combination with the angle iron matlOO trees frame offa bed, of a bracket compris-V ing t Hat securing end from which extends at a right angle Xa U-shaped spring Vmember arranged to be clasped over the posite to said securing end and a panel held to said holding end the lower edge of said panel resting on said angle iron frame, all 10 as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
CHESTER A. VAN DEMARK.
