REVERSIBLE TOOTHBRUSH.
Application filed September 30, 1919.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that .I, DAVID G. lVHrrE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston. in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Reversible Toothbrush, of whichthe followingis a full, clear, and .exact description;
This invention relates to tooth brushes, and has for an object to provide an improved construction in which the brushing means may be adjusted to conform to the interior and exteriorcontour of a persons teeth.
Another object in view is to provide a .toothbrush with the brush member or section formed adjustable throughout its length so as to present a proper curve for fitting substantially any point of the mouth.
A still further object, more specifically, is the provision in a. tooth brush of a body carrying the bristles formed of flexible ma terial capable of being fitted over a holder of different shapes so as to present different curves to the bank of bristles.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a handle and curved support embodying cer tain features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of a brush member embodying certain features of the invention, certain parts being broken away to illustrate the construction.
F 3 is a side view of the structure shown in Fig. 1, with the brush member shown in Fig. 2 applied thereto, part of the handle being broken'away.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through Fig. 3 on line 4--4t Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, but with the brush member reversed orturned to produce the opposite contour to that illustrated in Fig.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a handle of any desired kind which is provided with a brush holding member 2 curved so as to produce the arc-shaped portion 3. The arc-shaped portion 3 is preferably substantially round.
in cross section, though if desired it could be some other shape. This arc-shaped portion is designed to receive a brush construction 4, illustrated particularly in Figs. 2 to i, said brush structure comprising a back or Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 327,390.
body 5 of rubber or other flexible material and a series of bristles 6 secured to the body 5 in any desired manner, as for instance the ordinary way in which bristles are secured in brushes now in common use. The body 5 is provided with an opening 7 which is designed to accommodate the holder 2, said body 5 being slidingly pushed over the arcshaped member 3 until the parts assume for instance the position shown in Fig. 3. This arrangement presents a brush for brushing the teeth wherein the bank of bristles 6 form an arc. The surface of the bank of bristles is more or less convex in order to properly engage the teeth from the inside. In case it is desired to brush the teeth from the outside the body 5 is rotated until the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 5, wherein the bank of bristles is presented having a concave surface. It will, of course, be evident that the holder 2 could be some other shape in cross section besides could be turned a half revolution as just described, or turned for less than a half revolution. It is also to be noted that the body 5 could be. pulled off the holder 2, and reapplied in a different position, though ordinarily the back is sufiiciently flexible and also preferably resilient to permit a revolution in situ.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A tooth brush comprising a handle formed with an arc-shaped support, and a flexible brush member telescoped over said support, said brush member adapted to be positioned on the support so as to present a convex or a concave contact surface.
2. A tooth brush of the character described comprising a handle, a holder carried by the handle formed substantially areshaped, a brush member formed with a bank of bristles, and a body, said body being mounted on said arc-shaped holder and formed of sufficiently flexible material to be rotated on the holder. so as to present varying contours to the operating surface of the bank of bristles.
3. Atooth brush comprising a handle, a
a bank of bristles and a flexible resilient body capable of rotation on the'holderl DAV-ID o. WHITE.
