To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALDEN R. CHAMBERS, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Winthrop in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in HotlVater Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to hot water bottles for therapeuticuse and has for its primary object to provide an article of this character in the form of a doll or other figure in order that children may be more readily persuaded to use the article.

Another objectof the invention is to provide a hot water bottle in the form of a doll or other figure and having a portion thereof such as the head for instance detachable whereby the article may be filled and the detachable portion replaced to form a 010- sure.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hot water bottle in the form of a doll having a detachable head whereby the interior of the article may be filled, and a funnel portion of flexible material located at the filling opening to facilitate the filling of the article, said funnel portion being foldable for insertion into the head when the latter is replaced.

In addition to the foregoing, this invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.

With reference to the drawing, 10 indicates the body or receptacle portion of my improved hot water bottle which it will be noted is in the form of a doll, and 11 indicates a head detachably connected thereto in manner to be presently seen. I 15 which is vulcanized to the inner surface of the sleeve 13 and which moreover extends beyond the latter member to form a funnel portion 16 which is flexible and readily foldable. The head 11 is hollow, thickened at its lower portion and inserted therein is a threaded metallic sleeve 17 designed for engagement with the sleeve 13 and provided at itslower end with an outwardly extending radial flange 18 embedded in the material at the neck. The conical portion 14 is formed with a valve seat 19 which is disposed parallel to the flange 18 when the head is-inserted in place, and a washer 20 is first applied to the sleeve 13 and rested upon said valve seat whereby said washer may be tightly engaged between the seat and the flange 18 where the head is screwedin place to form a water tight connection.

When the article is to be filled the head is detached by unscrewing whereupon'the funnel portion 16 will unfold outwardly as shown in Fig. 3 thereby permitting the interior of the receptacle to I be readily filled with hot water. When this is done the funnel portion 16 is folded several times and inserted into the open end of the head 11 which is subsequently screwed in place as shown in Fig. 2. The hot water may now flow into the head and the entire portion of the article will be uniformly heated.

Thus it will be seen that I have provided a novel article which will readily be appreciated'by children who will use an article of this character in preference to a hot water bottle of the conventional type. more, at othertimes the article may be used as a doll'or toy. As a modification of this arrangement the head may be formed with a male threaded element and rendered air tight for connection with the threaded sleeve in the receptacle, thereby permitting a whistle to be embodied in the head which will afford additional amusement when the head is squeezed. In this case however it will be apparent that the funnel arrangement 16 cannot be employed, at least in the manner Further-' set forth above. Other modifications and arrangement will readily occur to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains.

While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing thei'orm of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A hot water receptacle including a body portion of flexible material a threaded sleeve inserted therein, a hollow head portion, and a threaded sleeve inserted in said head portion for engagement with the first mentioned sleeve to form a closure.

2. A hot water receptacle including a body portion of flexible material, a threaded connection formed in the neck thereof, a hollow head portion, a threaded connection in. said head portion for engagement with the first mentioned threaded connection, and a funnel portion formed at the neck and adapted to be halded for insertion into fhe head when the latter is replaced.

3. A hot water bottle in the form of a human figure having arms and legs and said arms and legs hollow and in communication with the same body portion whereby hot water may flow throughout the entire interior of the body and extremities, the extremities of the arm and major portion of their lengths, being spaced from the.sides of the body to permit said arm to be inserted in interstices of portions of a human body.

4:. A hot water bottle in the form of a human figure having arms and legs which are hollow whereby the hot water may flow throughout the interior of the body portion and said arms and legs, the neck portion having a filling opening therein, and a 1101- low head for attachment to said neck portion to be in communication with the interior of the body to also receive the hot water therein.

5. A hot water bottle of flexible material in the form of a human figure having a filling opening at the neck, a foldable funnel integrally formed with said neck portion, and a hollow head portion for removable attachment to the neck portion and adapted to receive the funnel when the latter is folded and inserted therein.
