UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNARD HENRY KABMEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
'POWDER-PUFF.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD HENRY Kantian, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, (borough of Manhattan) in the county and Stateof New York, have invented a new and useful Powder-Puff, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to powder puffs and has for an object to provide an improved construction over that disclosed in my prior Patents No. 1,270,739 issued June 25, 1918 and No. 1,299,191 issued April 1, 1919, the improvement residing particularly in the means for securing the parts together including the securing in place of a flexible member acting as a handle.
A further object of the invention is to simplify the construction of machine made powder puifs and arrange the parts so that a single gripping action may hold the riblJOIiIT in place with the parts of the powder pu In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a powder puff disclosing one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through Fig. 1, the same being on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 2, with the surface or pilecloth removed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals 1 indicates the pile cloth forming the face of the powder puff, while 2 indicates the coverin or trimming cloth on the back of the pug The cloth 1 is folded over a gripping ring 3 which is provided with a turned over gripping section 4: for pinching the cloth 3 against the cloth 2, and the cloth 2 in turn against the metal disk 5 as shown in Fig. 2. These parts are all pressed tightly together during the course of manufacture and are therefore permamently fixed. In order to construct a handle a looped piece of ribbon or other Specification of Letters Patent.

material 6 is arranged as shown in Fig. 2, the parts tied together in a how 13 which acts as a handle, while the other ends are bent around the ends of the fabric covering 2 and the metal disk 5. By this construction and arrangement the clamping edge 4 of the ring 3 will grip the ends or end sections of the ribbon 6 holding the same rig: idly in place. This arrangement presents a handle structure which is of neat appearance, while at the same time capable of easIy grasping when the device is in use.
t will, of course, be noted that the assembling of the parts and the assembling of the two sections of metal namely the ring 3 and disk 5 may be done by means of special dies or in any desired manner, provided the result will be as shown in Fig. 2. This arrangement eliminates stitching, separate fastening means, or any appreciable amount of hand work, while at the same time presenting a neat and very efficient owder uff.
What claim is:
1. A powder puff comprising a disk, a ring member having a flange, a pile cloth stretched over the ring, a trimming cloth stretched over the disk, a piece of ribbon stretched over the trimming cloth, the ends of said ribbon and the edges of said trimming' cloth and said pile cloth all extending between said ring and said disk in the same direction and clamped simultaneously in position by said ring. 1
2. A powder puff comprising a body formed of a disk, a ring member clamped to the edge of said disk, a pile cloth piece stretched over said ring member and extending between the ring member and the disk so as to be held in place by the ring member with its pinching action against the disk, and a handle of ribbon arranged exteriorly of said disk with the ends projecting between the edge of the disk and the ring member so as to be pinched by the ring member and heldin lace.
