Be it known that I, MARGAMT COLLINS, a subject of the King ofGreat Britain, and resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nurseryl Toiletsof which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a chamber-vessel and chair support, and particularly to a vessel and chair especially adapted for use in the nursery.

l have found from practical experience in the care of children extending over a period of several years thatthe ordinary chambervessel is poorly adapted for use by very small children and especially by small boys, as they invariably soil the floor, or if the vessel is used beneath a chamber-vessel, they soil the seat of the chair by directing the urine over the edge of the vessel. I am aware that bed pans have been designed with baflies for the purpose of obviating the spilling of urine over their edges, but they have not been suitable for use as chamber-vessels by children as. the baflles have been of such form that a child could not be placed upon one of-these vessels astride the baile without great discomfort and danger of injury tothe legs of the child. Furthermore such vessels cannot be used with the usual form of childs chamber-chair as no provision has been made in the seat of the chair for the upward projection therethrough of the baiile.

A principal object of my invention is to provide a chamber-vessel, which vis so designed as to be especially adapted for use by male children to prevent the direction of urine over the forward edge of the vessel, the bai'le being so arranged that a child may be placed upon the vessel astride the baffle without discomfort to the child.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a chamber-chair with which my improved vessel is especially adapted to coperate, the chair being so constructed that the vessel may be supported beneath the seat of the chair with thebaiie projecting upwardly through the opening in the seat adjacent to 'the forward edge of the chair.

A stillfurther object of the invention is to provide an improved nursery toilet of sanitarv, simple and inexpensive construction.

`Referring to the Idrawings in detail, the

v numeral l designates a vessel constructed in accordance with the present invention. This vessel may be constructed of any suitable material, for example, china, porcelain, enameled ware, hard rubber, or the like, and of such size and proportions as is best suited for use by very young children, The vessel comprises a body 2 which is provided at its upper edge with a flange 3 formed integrally therewith.l Preferably formed integrally y with the flange .3 is a handle 4. Arranged diametrically opposite' the handle 4 and* made integral with the bod 2 is a relatively high and narrow bafile. he upper end of the baille projects a suitable distance above the flange of thevessel to stop and prevent any urine which may be directed upwardly against 1t from going over the edge of the vessel. For this purpose the edges 6 of the bale are also directed forwardly so that the, baille is substantially hood or scoop-shaped.

As is apparent from Fig. 2 the bae 5 is comparatively narrow so that the child may be placed uponthe vessel astride the baffle` i with no discomfort and without such a spreading of the childs legs as' would from frequent use of the vessel tend to permanently bow or otherwise disfigure the legs of the child.

A childs chamber-'vessel is customarily employed with a chair beneath which the vessel is disposed. In Figs. 3 to 6 I have disclosed sucha chair especially adapted for use with the chamber hereinbefore described. This chair comprises a seat portion 7 suitably 'supported upon a base 8 of reed,

` wicker or other suitable material, open at the rear as shown in Fig. 6, and a back 9 of reed or other suitable material.

The seat 7 is provided with an opening 10 of substantially the same diameter as the inside of the vessel 1, the opening 10 being extended as at 1l toward the front edge 12 of the seat sufficiently to receive the baffle portion 5 of the vessel, when the vessel is disposed. ,beneath the seat 7. It is partlcularly desirable thatthe child may sit in the ohalr in a position such that its legs may extend over the forward edge of the chalr in a natural manner, and therefore the forward edge of the extended portion 11 of the opening 10 is formed as close as ossible to the forward edge of the seat. he seat 7 is provided with a sanitary pneumatic or other cushion 13 adjacent the edge of the opening 10, although if desired this may be omitted.

These guides are not extended rearwardly as far as the opening 10 in order to permit the upward'insertion through the openin 10 of the baille portion. 5 of the vessel. ith the cover 15 in the position shown in Fig. 3, to position the vessel beneath the chair, the. portion 5 of the vessel is first inserted upwardly through the opening 10 adjacent the rear portion of the opening until the upper edge of the' flange 3 of the vessel engages the under surface of the seat 7. The vessel is then pushed forwardly between the guides 17 wlth the flange 3 engaged between the horizontal portions of the guides and the under surfaces of the seat, until the baille portion 5 is positioned in the extension 11 of the opening 10. The vessel will then be properly alined be.- neath the opening 10 and held firmly in position.

I claim:

1. A nursery toilet comprising in combination a chair having an -opening in the seat thereof, and a vessel provided with an Vopening bein so formed as to permit the positioning of the vessel beneath the seat of said chair with said baiile upwardly therethrough.

2. A nursery toilet comprising in combination a chair having an openm in the seat thereof, and a vesselprovide with a narrow upwardly extending baffle portion, said opening being so formed as to ermit the positioning of thevessel beneath t e seat of said chair with the baffle portion immediately adjacent the forward edge of the chair seat and extending upwardly therethrough.

A nursery toilet comprising in combination a chair having an opemng in the seat thereof, and avessel comprising a body portion, a narrow scoop-shaped bae portion extending upwardly above the upper edge of said body portion and an outwardly extending marginal flange integral with the marginal edge of said bodyportion, said opening being so formed as to permit the positioningof the vessel beneath the seat of said chair with its mar inal flange in contact with the under surfce of said seat and with its baille portion immediately adjacent the forward edge of said seat and extending upwardly therethrough.

.4. A nursery toilet comprising in combination a chair having an opening in the seat thereof, and a vessel comprising a body portion, a narrow scoopshaped bafiie portion extending upwardly above-the upper edge of said body portion and an outwardly extending marginal flange integral with the marginal edge of said body portion, and means attached to the under side of said portion extending 4 chair seat and engaging beneath the flange of said vessel for posltioning said vessel beneath said seat in alinement with the openopening.

A nursery toilet comprising in `coinbination a chair having an opening in the seat thereof, and a vessel comprising a body portion, a narrow scoop-shaped baiile por tion extending upwardly above the upper edge of said body portion and an outwardly extending marginal flange integral with the marginal edge' ofv said body portion, and spring guides attached to the under side of said chair seat and engaging beneath the flange of said vessel for positioning said vessel beneath said seat inA alinement with the opening therein with the baiiie portion of said vessel extending upwardly through said opening.l

6. A nursery toilet comprising in combination a chair comprising a seat having an opening therein, an air cushion on said seat surrounding said opening, and a cover hinged to the forward edge of said seat, and
