Description

B. W. PIERCE.-
HOG HARNESS;
. APPLICATION FILED APR. 6. I920.
1,3 2,505. v Patented Dec. 14,1920.
A'ITORNEY WITNESS:
UNITED STATES BENJAMIN WESLEY PIERCE, OF ALPINE, OREGON.
HOG-HARNESS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1920.
Application filed April 6, 1920. Serial No. 371,572.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN W. PIEROE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alpine, in the county of Benton and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hog-Harness, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in harness for hogs and the principal object of the invention 1s to provide means whereby a hog may be driven from place to place.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the harness.
As shown in these views the invention includes a bridle 1 and a body encircling part 2. The bridle consists of a substantially circular part 3 for receiving the nose and lower jaw of the hog and a loop 4 having its ends connected with said circular part and adapted to pass around the head of the hog back of its ears. These two parts are provided with buckles, as shown, for adjusting the bridle to suit different sizes of hogs straps 5 having their ends connected to- The body part consists of a pair of gether to form a body encircling loop. The meeting ends of these straps at the lower part of the loop is connected with the lower part of the circular part 3 by a strap 6 which passes under the neck of the hog. Each strap 5 is connected with the loop 4 by means of a strap 7. Each of the straps 5 and the straps 7 are provided with buckles for adjusting it. One of the straps 5 is provided with an extension 8 which is provided with a metal loop 9 at its end. This strap serves as a hold in driving the hog. If desired, a rope or longer strap may be connected with said loop.
It will be seen that the strap 5 passes around the body of the hog immediately behind his shoulders while the strap 6 passes between his front legs along his neck to the lower part of the circular part 3. The straps 7 hold the loop l in proper position back of the hogs cars.
It is thought from the foregoin description that the advantages and nove features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A hog harness comprising a buckled loop for encircling the nose and lower jaw of the hog, a U-shaped strap having its ends secured to opposite sides of the loop, a pair of straps secured together to form a loop for encircling the fore-body of the hog, a strap connecting the lower ends of said pair of straps with the under part of the loop, one strap of the pair being extended at its upper end and provided with a handle and bucklecarrying side straps connecting the U-shaped strap with the pair of straps and extending across the shoulder of the hog.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
BENJAMIN wEsLEY PIERCE.
