To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Law I. Jor-rNsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pass-Books and the like, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates generally to pass books and the like and more particularly to blank books in which entries are made from time to time, my object being the provision of page holding and marking means in connection therewith by means of which the proper or current page for entry will be indicated and at once apparent at all times.

W'hile adaptable to books of. various characters, the invention is primarily intended for bank pass books through its particular function in this connection of savmg time to bank clerks and depositors, especially during busy hours, when clerks are forced to lose considerable time and keep lines of busy people waiting while turning the pages of pass books to find the proper or current page for entry. lVith my improvements the page is clearly indicated and the book upon being opened, opens to the proper or current page so that the above delay is entirely avoided.

Referring now to these figures my invention resides in the provision of each of the cover sections 10 and 11 of a book, particularly a bank pass book, with an elastic page holding strap 12 extending lengthwise thereof and upon its inner surface, each of which straps is adapted to receive therebeneath one or more of the pages 13 of the book.

For the purpose of my invention the extremities of the elastic straps 12 are extended around the upper and lower edges of. the respective cover section, and secured thereto by U-shaped clips 14, which as seen particularly in Fig. act to clamp the strap extremities, and have their extensions 15 projected through slits in the cover and bent or crimped upon the inner face of the cover section as seen in Fig. 2 whereby to securely hold the same in place.

If as is generally the case the book has an outer covering 16, the outer extremities of the straps are extended beneath such covering so that the outer extremities of the straps as well as the clamping portions of the clips 14 will be concealed from View at the outside of the book. Thus as each page is used completely, it is turned and slipped beneath the strap 12 of the cover section 10 so that the book when opened will expose the proper or current page immediately in View of the fact that used or partially used pages are in position beneath either one or the other of the straps l2 and all unused pages remain beneath the strap 12 of the section 11 with all completely used pages beneath the strap 12 of the cover sectlon 10.

This arrangement provides for GiFGCtlYG durable holding of the ends of the elastic page engaging straps and will result in use in avoiding a great deal of time wasted in finding current or proper pages under circumstances first above indicated.

A page holding device for books having a cover, which consists of a flexible strap extending along the inner face of the cover, having its opposite ends extending around opposite edges of the cover, and clips extending through the cover and engaging and clamping the outer extremities of the strap, the book cover having an outer covering layer beneath Which the connected ends of the strap extend and beneath which the connecting clips are concealed.
