Description

Patented March 4, 1873.
S. WELMOT.
Clamps for Bigar-Molds.
PHOTO-L ITHDGRA PHIL ca 112(083051153 mu csss) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL VVILMOT, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENTTIN CLAMPS FOR ClGAR-MO'LDS.
Specification forming part of- Letters Patent No. 136,399, dated March 4, 11573.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WILMOT, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamps for Holding Forms after beingPressed; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawin g and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of my clamp in use, holding cigar-molds in place after the same have been pressed. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the clamp detached.
Like letters refer to like parts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a simple device by means of which cigar-molds mayberetained under pressure after the same have been removed from the press.
It is usual, after cigar-bunches have been formed in molds, to press the bunches into shape by placing the molds in a suitable press, where they should remain about twelve hours, or until the bunch is sufficiently pressed to retain its shape when removed from the mold. This process requires a large number of presses where the business of cigar-making is carried on in an extensive manner. This clamp is do signed to obviate this expense. After the molds have been once, and for a few moments, subjected to the act-ion of the press, they may be removed therefrom and secured in the clamp, where the pressure is kept up.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a metallic or wooden clamp, each arm of which is provided with a series of coincident holes, a. B is a shaft which is designed to pass through these holes and connect the two arms of the clamp. Upon this shaft is sleeved the lever-cam G.
The molds being placed in the clamp, as shown in Fig. 1, more or less, as occasion may require, the shaft is inserted through the holes next above the upper mold, and the lever of the cam turned down, when the molds are held in place under pressure as long as required.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The clamp A provided with a series of coincident holes, a, shaft B, and lever-cam 0, constructed to operate substantially as and for the purposes set forth. SAML. WILMOT. Witnesses:
