Be it known that I, Josnri-x Rnomor-rnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Receptacles and Cupl-lolders, of which the following is a specification. j

The present invention has relation to a combined receptacle and cup holder and has for its primary object to provide in a singledevice. a receptacle portion for containing pens, pencils, etc, and a support for entry ing a drinking cup, the main idea being that each school child in being provided with a pencil receptacle will also carry an individual drinking cup for personal use alone as a guard against the spread oi disease or the like and also for other sanitary purposes.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the novel .iform, combination and arrangement o'l parts hereinafter more fully describechand shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

Briefly described, the present invention aims to provide a combined pen and pencil receptacle and a cup holder, the device be ing constructed of any suitable material as wood or metal of light weight such as aluminum and being provided at one end thereof with a relatively deep receptacle for containing pens. pencils and like objects. A swinging cover is provided for the open end of the receptacle and is retained. in closed position by a tensioned latch. The opposite endof the device is provided with a resiliently mounted arm carrying a lug that is Specification of Letters Patent.

adapted for reception in an annular channel formed upon the inner face of a drinking cup so that the cup is carried upon the device and is alone intended for the personal use of the child possessing the device.

Referrmg more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated the combined receptacle and cup holder including a receptacle section 6 and a cup supporting section 7. The receptacle portion 6 con tains a relatively deep cavity 8 normally open at its outer end and closed by a cap 9. The cap is mounted upon the pin 10 enteringthe outer end of the receptacle wall 6 and swings on a line at right angles to the longitudinal axis oi? the receptacle. its shown more clearly in Figs. l; and 2, the cover 9 carries an apertured finger exten sion 1.1 projecting inwardly therefrom at right angles and adapted substantially to trictionally engage the outer wall of the receptacle 6.

A spring latch is provided for the cover tongue ll an d includes a spring arm 12 having the lower end thereof bent as at 13 and retained in a socket provided. in the wall oi the receptacle 6 by the pin 14;. The upper end of the spring arm 12 is provided with a latch 15 projecting through an opening 16 provided in the wall of the receptacle 6 and adapted for reception in the opening in the spring finger 11, thus to hold the cap 9 closed upon the receptacle 6. A push button 17 extending through an opening 18 provided in the wall of the receptacle is carried by the spring arm 12 and isadapted to be engaged by a finger to press the arm 12 inwardly to release the latch 15 from the spring finger 11, whereupon the cover 9 may be swung upon its pivotal mounting 10 to permit access to the receptacle pocketS.

The cup supporting end 7 of the device is provided with an annular shoulder 19 through which the vertical recess 20 passes in extending from the wall of the receptacle 6 to the cup support portion 7. A resilient cup engaging linger is disposed in the recess 20 and is better shown in Figs. 2 and 5 as embodying a body portion. 21 having an angular bent lower end that is retained within the lower end of the recess 20 by the transverse pin 23. Another pin 24textending transversely of said recess and spaced slightly above, and inwardly of the pin 23 is engaged by the rear end of the spring fingerQl to maintain the same forwardly and projected in the position shown in Fig. 2. A lug projects outwardly from the spring finger 21 at a point intermediate the ends thereof and midway the edges of the annular flange 19 adapted for engaging the cup 26 to hold the same upon the support 7.

The type of cup employed herein may be formed of any material desired such as aluminum and is provided with an outwardly directed channel portion 27 adjacent the upper end thereof to provide an annular recesslinto which the lug 25 upon the spring finger 21 is adapted to be projected.

lVith the device constructed in accordance with the present invention, there may be provided combined pencil receptacles and drinking cup holders so that each child in a h school. may carry an individual cup to pre vent the spread of disease. In order to release the cup 26 from the support 7, the outer endof the spring finger 21 is pressed inwardly, into the recess 20 to remove the lug 25 from the channel of the annular bead 27, whereupon the cup may be removed from the support 7. If desired, the spring fingers may be duplicated or any number thereof may be provided around the sides of the device so that it will be necessary to operate more than one of the spring fingers to effect a release of the cup. The pocket portion 8 of the receptaclefi may be opened by pressing upon the button 17 to release the latch 15 from the aperturcd finger ll of the cup 9, as previously described. lVhile there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood, that minor changes may be made in the form, combination and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

V hat is claimed as new is:

l. A combined receptacle and cup holder comprising a body portion having a receptacle at one end thereof, a closure cap for the receptacle, a spring finger for the closure rap carried by the receptacle, aspring finger carried by the cup supporting end of the device, a lug carried by said spring linger and a cup having an annular groove formed adjacent the upper end thereof and into which the lug of the spring finger is adapted to be projected.

2. A combined receptacle and cup holder comprising a body portion having a rcccptacle at one end thereof, said. cup holder having a longitudinal recess formed therein, a spring finger mounted in said recess, a lug projecting from said linger and a cup having an annular channel received on said support and into which channel the linger lug is adapted to be projected.

3. A. combined receptacle and cup holder comprising a hollow body portion having one end solid, its opposite end being fully open, a closure cap for the open end of said receptacle, :1 spring finger for the closure cap carried by the receptacle and cup supporting means carried by the solid end of the body portion to retain a cup exteriorly thereon.

A combined receptacle and cup holder comprising a hollow cylindrical body portion having one end solid and its other end fully open, a closure cap for the open end of said receptacle, a spring finger for the closure cap carried by the receptacle. :1 spring linger carried exteriorly by the solid end ol the body portion, cup mounted exteriorly on. the solid end of said body and constructed to cooperate with said finger to retain the latter thereon.
