Specification of Letters Patent. 7
Application filed June 16, 1919, Serial No.- 304,552. Renewed J'u1y 19,1 920. Serial No. 397,548.
To all whom itmag concern: 7
Be it known that I, LEWIS A. AM'Is, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muskogee, in the county of Muskogee and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lather- Cups; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a lather cup and the primary object thereof is to provide a device of the class described which vis especially adapted for use "by travelers and it 7 is an. important feature. of the invention that it is constructed so as to take up but little space in a traveling bag or case, and the invention furthercontemplates the provision of means whereby the device may be rendered sanitary in a convenient manner.
Another object of theinvention'is to provide means whereby a saponifying agent, such as soap, may be applied to the cup in disk form and securely heldagainst accidental displacement as the cup is handled or transported, means being provided to retain the saponifying disk-in place so that "f it will always be available in connection 1 with the cup.
' the bottom portion of the recess is of greater Another object is toprovide a roughened or irregular bottom surface for-the cup.
In the drawings- Figure I is a longitudinal vertical-section through a cup constructed in accordance with my invention. V v
Fig. II is a perspective view of a plu-' rality of saponifying disks to be used in connection with the cup, and 7 Fig. III is a vertical view of the cup. The cup is illustrated as consisting of a single piece of soft rubber comprising a concave-convex portion 1, constituting the cup bowl, in the bottom of which is a recess 2 having undercut edges 3 whereby diameter than the top thereof, and the base 4 is provided with a plurality of flexible proper uponthe base or rest. The upper lugs .or projections 5, which support the cup designates a plurality ofsaponifying disks adapted tobe received'within the recess 3.
'For the introduction of these disks, the flexible wall 4L of the recess 3 may be sufficiently expanded so that the lipv 8 slightly overlaps thedisk and holds it in place, as shown in Fig. I. The retention of the disk will 7 be furtherinsured, as soon as water is applied, by the lather, which 'will flowtoward the bottom of the recess'B and key inthe disk, which will be held in place until ithas been consumed. V
The lugs ,or projections. 5
the rest'or support to prevent accidental slipping as the brush; is moved around in the cup to make the lather. V
If desired, these lugs or projections may V be rubbedover the surface of the skin after By reference to Fig. I it will be observed constitute legs I "whlch Wlll be adapted to grip .the surface of V that the bowl-shaped portion 1 of thefde- 1 Vice has relatively deep curved walls and that the bead 6 is so disposed that it will serve'as a baffle to prevent the lather from working out of the top and will efficiently turn back any. latherwhich creeps up the sides during the formation thereof.
'' What I claim. and desire to secure by Let- Y tors-Patent is 1; As a new article of manufacture, a soft rubber bowl-shaped member having a recess in the bottom thereof, the wallof from the bottom of the device.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a
' lather cup comprising a soft rubber, .bowlshaped member having a recess in the bottom thereof, the walls surrounding the re-' cess being expansible and contractible, and 3' a multiplicity of rubber lugs depending.
from the bottom of said member.
' I In testimony whereof afiix my signature.
