IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR CLEANING PRIVIES AND SINKS.
Specification forming part of Le ters Patent No. 137,680, datcd April 8,1873; applicaiion filed April 1, 1873.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANGIER M. HOBBS, of Washington city and District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Cleaning Sinks, Privies, &c., of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description, reference being shall cause two of the valves to open, and the lowering of the same shall cause the other two valves to open and close the two first.
Ihe construction and operation of my invention are as follows:-
A is the force and suction pump, and B its a piston, both of which are constructed in the usual manner and out of any suitable material. (J is the main pipe, through which the excrement is carried from the sink to the wagon. At the center of this pipe 0 is attached the pump A. In the pipe 0 are arranged four or more valves, 0 O and O 0 two on one side and the other two on the other side of the pump. These valves may be hinged to the top of the pipe or fastened in any manner that will not interfere with their free working. The seat of these valves may be arranged in any convenient manner-as, for instance, as shown in the drawing-0r two pins may be secured to the interior section of the pipe about a little over half way down from the top and projecting out sufficiently far to hold the valves in place when closed.
The operation is as follows: The mouth of the hose D is placed in the sink-box, the other :end being attached to the pipe U, while the the excrement to close the valves 0 G and at the same time open the valves 0 thus enabling the excrement to pass freely to the wagon.
Should paper, rags, or any hard substance be caught under either of the valves, renderin g the same inoperative, the machine can still be worked by means of the other valves.
Instead of the pipe 0 being a single pipe it may be constructed in sections, each section being provided with a valve and male and female screw-threads. By this means more than four valves can be used should it be desirable.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The pipe 0 provided with valves 0 G and 0 0 arranged as described, in combination with the pump A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed myname to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANGIER M. HOBBS.
