This invention has for its object to produce a bedstead which can be folded together into a narrow space, and will, therefore, be convenient for travelers use, camp-meetings, and
similar occasions. My invention consists in hinging the posts of the bedstead to the end rails, so that such posts can be laterally folded against the rails to make the end form a double bar when folded, thus economizin g considerable space for transportation. My invention also consists in providing said hinged posts and end rail with braces, by which they can be connected in the proper position for use; and in combining the same with detachable side rails and connectingbraces, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter A represents the posts of the bedstead, which are hinged at d, or pivoted to the end rail B of the bedstead in such manner that when the bedstead is to be folded together the posts can be swung laterally against the rail B in the man ner shown in Fig. 2. Braces a a are pivoted to the posts to connect diagonally with the pins on the end rail, and thereby keep the posts upright when the bedstead is to be used. Suitable cross-bars e 6 may be fitted between the upper ends of the posts to furnish supports for pillows, andimprove the appearance of the bed. The side rails G of this bedstead have tenonsf f formed at their ends, to fit into corresponding mortises, which are cut into or formed in the inner faces of the end rails B, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, when the bedstead is to be used.
By reference to Fig. 2 it will be readily understood into how narrow a space the several parts of this bedstead can be folded whenever the same is to be packed away for transportation, 850.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The bed-postsA A, hinged to the ends of the end rail B of a bedstead, to be folded laterally against the same, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the end rail B, hinged posts A A, and braces a a, with the detachable side rails O and braces b, substantially as described.
J. L. KILLGORE.
